IRmSMBlR", BY THE OLD TIMER READ THE CLASSIFIED From A. A. Schlieske, Chicago, Illinois: I remember when we had street lamps and a man used to go around on a bicycle to mi the tanks. When . . . We had strawberry socials, square dancing and Sunday school picnics. When policemen walked the beat. We had horse cars from Central Park Avenue to" Ashland Avenue, and the fare was only a nickle. We had street cars with straw on the floor and a small stove in one corner. The best meats sold for 12c to 15c a pound. Farmers came to town and gathered around the general store to discuss the news of the week and help themselves from the cracker barrel. We used to go to the Post Office for our mail, riding an old bicycle which we had earned cutting wood and sifting coal. The fire department had a horse-drawn vehicle and many times we helped others push them out of the muc. There were dirt roads and an old toboggan slide in Marquette Park.
