PAVEMENT MARKINGS' NOV. 8, 1968 - PLAINDEALER - SEC. 1 Warriors 26-0 Pavement markings 'are used like highway signs to warn and direct drivers and to regulate traffic. It is important, therefore, that they be clearly understood. CINTE* UNIS are marked on all paved roadways which carry two-way traffic. There are three types ... By Bert Hagemann Whatever coach Bob Tummiclif of Libertyville fed his charges this past week should be bottled and sold for all football coaches to have access to. The Cats came out on the field needing a victory to tie for the North Suburban crown, and they played like a champion should. They dominated the football game completely as the outclassed Warriors struggled valiantly to avert a disaster from occuring. With this vital win under their belts, the Libertyville eleven can now look back' on a season which saw them win the big ones and gain a share of the title with Barrington, who they defeated early in the season. The Cats received the opening kickoff on an Artie cold, soggy day, and were forced to punt. The Warrior thrusts ^ the Cat goal were stopper byS the first of many Liberiyville) interceptions, and the firsj£ quarter settled down to a fumbling, punting Contest. As the quarter drew to a close, the Cats received a Warrior punt, .and behind a beautiful wall of blockers, opened up the first break of the game as they raced it back to the Mc Henry 21. SAFEGUARD YOUR HEALTH A PUBLIC SERVICE OF THE ILLINOIS STATE MEDICAL SOCIETY LIVER IS AN ESSENTIAL ORGAN One of the most essential organs of the human body is that of the liver, for without it man would live but a short timeit is the "chemical factory" of the body. The liver receives certain raiw materials from the food we consume, filters them and converts them into some thirty different substances required for normal growth and living. It secretes bile, stores carbohydrates and regulates the amount of the various proteins in the blood. The largest of the human glands--it weighs about three or four pounds--the liver is situated in the upper right part of the abdomen under the diaphragm. Although it's rather well protected by the rib structure, serious injury to it may prove fatal since the liver normally contains about onefourth of the body's supply of blood. Diseases of the liver sometime produce a jaundice characteristic resulting in a yellowish discoloration of the patient's tissues visible in the skin and the whites of one's eyes. This condition,' called "yellow jaundice", is brought about by the blocking of the tube leading from the liver to the intesliflwms FOR TRAFFIC SAFETY by PaurPowell Secretary of State tine. Result? The normally excreted bile backs up into the bloodstream and is circulated throughout the body. Another liver disease of growing concern to the medical profession is infectious hepatitis. This disease, which iscaused by a virus, is believed to result from pollution. Because hepatitis is an extremely infectious disease and easily transmitted to others, isolation is necessary in early phases of treatment. Again with hepatitis, we find similar characteristics attributed to "yellow jaundice" --yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes. Chemical poisons, one of which may be alcohol, also cause liver disease. When alcohol is taken into the body through excessive amounts of whiskey, beer or wine, damage to the liver can result. Excessive drinking, however, is not solely at fault, but rather a contributing factor, since heavy alcohol consumers frequently do not eat properly and consequently develop dietary deficiencies. This condition is commonly known as cirrhosis of the liver. While much can be done for the person with a liver disease, there is no medication that will restore the liver to its normal function. Bed rest is imperative. Also essential is a diet adequate in sugary substances, protein foods, and large amounts of all the vitamines necessary to a healthy life. Limited amounts of fatty foods should be consumed. With proper medical supervision, the majority of patients with liver disease do very well. The aim is to encourage the development of new liver tissue capable of performing normal function. ft was at this juncture that they changed their game plan of passing contantly and went to their ground attack. At 2:36 of the first quarter Mischer punched over the first Cat score and with the unsuccessful kick the Cats led, 6-0. After the kickoff the Warriors punted to the Cat 10, and Libertyville marched 90 yards, capping the five minute drive with a 40 yard run by Bill Beckman for the touchdown. It was herethatMc- Henry fell apart. The first ploy after raeeiving the kick-off saw another errant pass fall into Libertyville hands, and they promptly skirted the Warrior end for their third touchdown in 10 minutes time. The rest of the half the two teams traded mistakes, and first half statistics showed oily 2 first downs for McHenry. SCORELESS THIRD The third quarter was a scoreless affair, but the Warriors^ defense did stiffen, although the offense remained as cold as the shivering fans. Right at the start of the fourth quar'.sr the Cats linebacker, MacCallum, picked off another Warrior 'pass and rambled 30 yards into the end zone for the final score of the ball game. The rest of the game was inconsequential, as both teams went through the motions, and the stands emptied early. Clearly this was a Libertyville day. The Warrior offense bore little resemblance to the efforts of a week earlier, as the orange and black amxvnJ under 100 yards total. The loy to this game probably lies in the fact that the Cats had to win whereas the Warrior role was reduced to one of spoiler. The Warriors were outhit and outplayed without a doubt, but certain members never did quit, and this must go to their credit. This season ended with an over-all 5-3 record by a team many picked for a low spot on the North Suburban ladder. The Warriors managed a share of first divis'Ti. and with the crippling injuries suffered throughout the season, they did an overall fine job. Friday's column will see me take my medicine on my preseason picks, although there was improvement from last year. Two-lane rurgl roads--white stripes 15 ft. long spaced 25 ft. apart. The popularity seems destined to continue to climb. With popularity comes the necessity to regulate and control these vehicles. This was brought to the attention of the 1967 legislature with the result that campers and house cars are now classified as second division vehicles.
