The McHenry County Dairy Promotion council plans an informative program coinciding with Lent, Charles Weingart of McHenry, president of the menu-minded organization, announced this week. The Dairy council plans to work with grocery stores in McHenry county to boost products that are particularly appropriate in preparing lenten meals. At the meeting last week, members agreed to invite restaurants to feature Table-Top Tents with favorite Lenten recipes of Betty Boppai't, McHenry County Dairy Princess. Betty is choosing recipes for main dishes, salads, and desserts- recipes that are among her favorites and which have been tested by the American Dairy Association of Illinois home economics department. The Dairy Promotion Council also approved sponsoring a County Dairy Princess contest i n 1 9 6 6 . M c H e n r y c o u n t y , through the years, has had an outstanding representative in state-wide competition. It encouraged the idea for a statewide contest by naming the only Dairy Princess that Illinois had in 1954-55. Dairy Council members discussed close cooperation with the Harvard Milk Day program, set for early June. The next Dairy Council meeting will be Feb. 16 at the Farm Bureau office. WSCS Spring Tea Is Scheduled ; Mrs. Evelyn Hans, chairman of"-the spring tea sponsored by the Women's Society of Christian Service of the Community Methodist church, states that T. David.McCartney will speak at the affair which will be .held at the V.F.W. hall on Wednesday. March 2. at 1 p.m. Title of his talk is "Potpourri". Committees have been appointed as follows: Mrs. Verotta Gerstad, refreshments; Mrs. Clara S\Vanson, coffee ;md tea serving; Mrs. Lila Jordan, assisted by Mrs. Hazel MacLaughlin, tickets; Mrs. Mildred Snively. decorations: Mrs. Melirida Bassett, posters and Mrs. Irene Witt rock, publicity. Other committee members are Mrs. Jean--Cameron and Mrs. Norma Thompson. Traditionally the spring tea has been an outstanding social event in ' the community. Plans, as announced, indicate this year's program and "tea time' 'will provide an interesting and enjoyable afternoon for all who attend. Tickets are available from committee members. CD OF A COURT HEARS TALK ON CHRISTIAN UNITY HOLD MISSIONARY, CONVENTION AT LOCAL CHURCH At a recent meeting of Joyce Kilmer,. Court 573, Catholic Daughters of America, an impressive talk was given by a member, Rita Ullrich, stressing the importance of Christian unity: "That they may be one as Thou in Me and I in Thee' - words from Christ's own prayer at the Last Supper. Leaflets were distributed to each member present and all were asked to join in the League of Prayer started many years ago by Father Paul and a group of Anglicans who joined the church in 1908. Father Paul and his followers formed the Society of the Atonement and promoted continual year 'round devotion to the Lady of Atonement for the cause of unity. On Feb. 2 members drove to Downey Veterans hospital for the monthly evening of providing entertainment for hospital participating in the entertainment. Games were played, after which the ladies served refreshments. MANY CLASSROOM TEACHERS HEAR TALK ON TAXES T h e M c H e n r y C l a s s r o o m Teachers' association held its January meeting on Monday, Jan. 31, at Junior high school. There was a good turn-out including some of the high school faculty. After a short business meeting, Robert Miller of the U.S. Internal Revenue office in Woodstock was introduced as the speaker. Mr. Miller explained just what deductions were allowable and which were not, and talked especially on "education required by employer" expenses. ROYCE REXIUtlg Rev. and Mrs. Rexilius began their missionary career at the Headquarters Receiving home in Saigon, Viet Nam, in 1955, after a year of language study in France. More recently they have also been engaged in literature distribution. Mr. Rexilius grew up on a Nebraska farm between Omaha and. Lincoln. World War n came along and, like many other young men, he called into military service. With the coming of V-E Day in Europe he was transferred to the Philippines, where a determination to return there as a missionary of the Gospel of Christ came upon him. After the war Mr. Rexilius attended St. Paul Bible college, where he met his wife, also in training there. Upon completion of their training at St. Paul, he went to the University of Nebraska, while she did secretarial work in a local bank. Rev. and Mrs. Royce Rexilius will tell more about th^ir recent missionary activities during the annual Misslbnary convention in the Alliance Bible church, located at 3813 W. John street, McHenry, from Feb. 20 to 23. Both the Pastor, Rev. HOMEMAKERS OF AREA TO SPONSOR SPRING LUNCHEON The McHenry unit of homemakers met at the home of Rose Schiddelll Feb. 1, with thirteen members present. Roll call was, "My favorite season of the year and why." The general trend was Spring and Fall, Spring because everything; is just blossoming out, Fall! because of the beautiful coloring that Jack Frost gives us. - . The major lesson, color in the home, was given by' Julie Pieroni. This lesson proved most helpful. Everyone present had something to say in regard to decorating and her own feelings about the color schemes in her home. The mystery box was won by Leanora Abbott. The next meeting will be held March 1 at 10:30 a.m. at the home of Leanora Abbott, 1711 N. Rogers, Lakeland Park. All members are urged to attend this meeting as it is most important. The unit wants to complete plans for the coming event, a luncheon. John Robert Snyder Baptized at St. Patrick's The new son and seventh child of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Snyder was baptized by Rev. Father David Beauvais at St. Patrick's church on Jan. 30 with Mr. and Mrs. William E. Miller serving as sponsors. John Robert, who was born at McHenry hospital Jan. 18, was welcomed home by three brothers and three sisters, Lee, 8, Mark ,6, Ann, 5, Ruth, 4, Judy, 2, and Paul, 16 months. Mr. Snyder is a mathematics teacher at Crystal Lake Community high school and the proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Harry Abing of Platteville, Wis., and Peter Snyder of Galena. Ahlherg Baby Baptized Sunday Bonnie-Lee Elvina was the name given to "the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Ahlberg by Rev. Fr. Leonard Guzzardo at christening rites Sunday, Feb. 6, at St. P a t r i c k ' s C a t h o l i c c h u r c h . Sponsors were Mr. and Mrs. Duane Andreas. A buffet dinner was served at the Ahlberg home to relatives and friends. The oldest ship in the present U.S. Navy, built in 1779 (the Constellation) is being put on permanent display at Baltimore. PRESIDENT OF GOP CLUBS TO BE ENTERTAINED Mrs. Adeline Geo-Karis Lambros of Zion will nte hostess of a luncheon honoring presidents of Republican Women's clubs and elected Republican women precinct committeemen from the 12th Congressional district on Friday, Feb. 11, in Waukegan at noon. Mrs. Lambros is president of the 12th Congressional district Women's Republican club and Mundelein village attorney. The area of the 12th Congressional district was changed by redisricting to include Lake and McHenry counties and the townships of Hanover and Barrington in Cook county. Featured will be a life-saving demonstration by the Johnsburg Rescue squad and bjcycle safety rules by the Sunnyside Police squad. Since parents are primarily responsible fcfr the safety . of their children, they should be able to promote the proper safety rules and regulations in order to' prevent serious injuries at home and at school. The meeting will begin at 8 p.m. and refreshments- will be served. The Health committee has scheduled the month of April for the hearing and vision testing of all pupils in the Johnsburg school. It was reported that Mrs. Hadley's second grade room received the Jan. 18 room attendance award. Donations are being received for the annual Fun Fair of April 2. On Feb. 10 at Johnsburg school there will be a meeting of all committee chairmen and of any additional volunteers needed for the success of the Fun Fair. Mrs. Phillip Ahlberg Honored At Showers Mrs. Phillip Ahlberg was honored recently at several showers for her new daughter, Bonnie-Lee Elvina. The baby's godmother, Mrs. Duane Andreas, was hostess to a gathering of former classmates at her home. Mrs. William Krause of Griswold Lake also entertained friends and classmates at a party at her residence. Mrs. August Stoddard and co-workers of Mrs. Ahlberg at the McHenry hospital honored her at the Stoddard home in Cryst'al Lake. Bonnie-Lee should be the best dresssed baby in McHenry.
