Churches Plan Riles On Holiday (Continued from page 1) congregations will sing "Praise to the Lord, the Almighty" a hymn tune with adaptations by Holworth, and the junior choir of Faith church will sing "O Father, Thou Who Givest" by Barnes. The special offering received at this service will go to the Christian Rural Overseas Program, known in many urban areas as Share Our Surplus. It will help to send government surplus commodities tothose in great need around the world. A nursery will be provided for infants and toddlers. ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC Masses atSt. Mary's Catholic church on Thanksgiving will be held at 6:30, 8 and 9 o'clock. CHRISTIAN SCIENCE The Christian Science society, McHenry, will hold a Thanksgiving service, open to the community, in the church edifice at 1511 N. Eastwood lane, Thursday, Nov. 23, at 10:30 a.m. Friends, neighbors and the public are especially invited. This service is a traditional one in Christian Science churches throughout most of the world. Branch churches in South America, Europe, Asia, andthe Near East will observe the American Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23. A specially prepared, "Thanksgiving" lesson - sermon will be read at all these services. It will include passages from the Bible and the denominational textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures", by Mary Baker Eddy. At the close of the lesson, the meeting will be opened for expressions of thanksgiving and gratitude from the congregation, for divine healing, comfort and guidance. YMCA Names New Youth Director The most significant step to date in the planned program of expansion of the Lake Region YMCA has been completed with the announcement by Alfred W. Selling, president of the association, of the selection of Philip H. Sprinkle as the community youth program director. Mr. Sprinkle assumed his duties cm Nov. 1, and will be working at the Crystal Lake Program center, 65 N. Williams street, Crystal Lake. When interviewed, Mr. Sprinkle answered a question about his reaction to the Lake Region communities by saying,"I am very interested in my new position and am particularly challenged by the idea of a new YMCA working with youth in rapidly expanding communities." i When questioned about his jo^ responsibilities, he said, "My' efforts will concentrate on Gra-Y, Tri Hi-Y, Hi-Y, bowling leagues, gym classes, Junior high dances, charm school, tennis instruction and other youth activities which could be scheduled. Also I will encourage a greater amount of family participation in channeling governing members' energies." He further said, "I hope to contact and meet with each governing member personally in the next few weeks to review plans and goals of the Lake Region YMCA." The association's committees and officers have deliberated long and hard concerning the wisdom of obtaining the services of another full-time director and finally reached the conclusion that the acceptance and demand for YMCA programs now and in the future necessitated a decision to be made at this time. COULSON PARTLY SHUTS DOOR ON PRIMARY PLANS At the Nov. 13th meeting of the McHenry County Young Republicans, State Senator Robert Coulson (R-Waukegan) revealed that he probably will not be a candidate for lieutenant governor in the Republican primary next June 11. Lack of $100,- 000 for a state-wide campaign was a primary factor in his decision. Coulson pointed out that the only time a man who is not wealthy has a chance for state office in Illinois is when a party has a nominating convention. "Primaries may seem to be the most democratic way of nominating state candidates, but if everyone who is not a millionaire is foreclosed from running for state office because of costly campaign expenses, maybe the procedure should be revised," YR Club President Cal Skinner, Jr., commented. In discussing needed improvements in the Illinois Republican State Central committee, of which he is a member, Coulson noted that the committee is not really leading the GOP. "We are movingin that direction by attempttn^fft/expand our full-time staffing," he pointed out. Coulson confirmed the rumor that has pervaded McHenry county Republican circles that the county will receive one delegate to the 1968 presidential nominating convention. He said that he expected that the person chosen to run by the Republican precinct committeemen would support Senator Charles H. Percy for president as a favortie son and Senator Everett Dirksen for chairman of the platform committee. He noted, however, that anyone with enough petition signatures would be able to run for the post of convention delegate in the June primary. Asked about pet projects "iat he had in the legislature, the Senate Whip stated that he is optimistic about the possibility of gaining approval for a senior college in southwestern Lake County. Although it would not be in his district in northern Lake County, Coulson believes that a Wauconda location would serve most of McHenry and Lake Counties, as well as much of suburban Cook county. He pointed out that the stat^already has on offer of freehand in the area.O ^NOVEMBER 21, 1967 - PLAINDEALER - fG. 3 MRS. ELSIE F. BORTER Mrs. Elsie F. Borter, 67, mother of Edwin Borter, 3709 W.
