I JANUARY S.I.H. began the New Year by watching all the Bowl games and the birds in his back yard* St. Mary's, of McHenry conquered a strong Johnsburg public school team to win the championship of Cary grade school holiday invitational basketball tournament. "The final score was 44-39. The Warriors defeated a scrappy Elmwood Park squad 87-70 in the Batavia tournament and then turned ice cold in their next game and were bombed by the eventual champions, Batavia, 75-48. Warriors dropped a decision to Barrington, 62-51 and then won their second win of the season by defeating Geneva, 59-52. The Warrior wrestlers were stampeded by Barrington Broncos, 33-16. The Warrior basketball team lost to Libertyville and Woodstock. FEBRUARY The Wrestling Warriors downed the Cary-Grove Trojans 25-14. The Dundee Cardunals clobbered the Warriors, 81-52. St. Patrick's beat a good St. Mary's team, 48-33 to win the annual grade school basketball tournament for the second time in two years. The league leading Warhawks of North Chicago won a thriller from the Warriors 79-72. The McHenry Warriors defeated Crystal Lake 70-67 for the first league win of the season after they lost 76-51 to Barrington. Carl Perrino and Jim Laursen each won first place in the district wrestling tournament in Crystal Lake. MARCH - .... He lost his first match to Chuck Dressle of Oak Park. His season record is 25-1-0. ' St. Patrick's Day loomedover the sunrise and S.I.H. paid fittins and proper tribute to the good Saint. St. Mary's of McHenry lost, to Our Lady of Good Counsel of Aurora in the diocesan tournament 45-42. APRIL S.I.H. and his Mrs. enjoyed the Forester bowling banquet. It was announced that the Pony League of McHenry would be replaced by the Babe Ruth baseball league. The Warriors opened their home baseball season with a come from behind last inning victory over the Bulldogs from Grant by a score of 5-3. The, Warrior thinclads opened their 1967 track season with a second place in a triangular meet at Dundee. MAY The G.A.A. basketball titles at McHenry high school were won by the junior and sophomores; Coach Anderson and Tom Evans attended the golden basketball dinner for North Suburban All-Stars. * " At the third amraal All Shorts banquet held at th© MiF.W* hall James "Rip" Collins, former St. Louis baseball star, was guest speaker. Athletic awards were presented to Frank Cuda for golf; Tom Dougherty, best defensive player in football; Paul Kilday, best free throw record in basketball; Rich Lossman, most valuable in football; Tony Wagner, best record in track; and Jim Laursen, best record in wrestling. Tom Dougherty was named athlete of the year. The Warrior Thinclads were edged by Dundee and finished third in fast McHenry relays. - Nelson Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vale Adams, shot a hole-in-one on number nine at McHenry Country club. Nelson is approaching the ripe old age of 14 years. A well-balanced Waukegan team shot a 318 at the McHenry Country club to easily beat.thirteen schools for the right tQ compete in the state championship. McHenry shot a 333 for third place. McHenry won its first district baseball game in five years when they beat Crown. For the second game in a row the Warriors put together tight pitching, almost flawless defense and clutch hitting to win the first district McHenry has Won in six years. They defeated Crystal Lake, 4 to 2. MCHS golf team ended iq> a successful season with a 11-2-1 record. S.I.H. spent a long Memorial yfiiekend with his daughter, Patricia, in Detroit, where he saw his first stage play since Uncle Tom's"cabin hit town. He also took in a movie and a double header with the Sox and Detroit, but he doesn't say much about that, seeing as how the Sox got a double drubbing. JUNE John Anderson and Dennis Lamb received awards from the V.F.W. honoring the Marian Central athletes. The McHenry Shamrocks were organized and played their games at McCracken field. Shores Social Athletic club, McHenry, joined the ranks of National Rifle Association affiliated organizations. The Johnsburg Tigers lost to Dundee in 11 innings, 11-10. The McHenry Legion team beat Marengo 4 to 3 in 13 innings. o Tim Freund pitched 12 innings, striking out 22. tal Lake Bombers at Harrison school grounds. This is the first. year for the Soccer team coached by Leo Hartog. S.I.H. wondered if he could get together with County Clerk Vernon Kays and offer their services to the Sox management to help the team solve its hitting problem. Club Alabi softball team.won a tournament in Ingleside. In these days when hysteria reigns on Chicago's north side S.I.H. can't dodge those long ^suffering Cub fans. Right in his own neighborhood, it is cannons to the right of him -- cannons to the left of him. Bill Kruetzer on one side, Ford Hanford and Ed. Doyle on his other. He wonders how he ever got mixed up with such a bunch. St. Mary's grade school basketball team, defending champs, won the Christmas tournament at Maplewood school, Cary, by defeating Transfiguration of Wauconda 44 to 26.
