For an evening you can explore the islands of Hawaii. St. John's Home and School, association is planning a return trip to the island^ as their theme for this year's dance. Anyone attending last year's dance caq^ouch for the authenticity thatwgnt into the decorating of the Johnsburg Community club for the occasion. The committee promises a repeat, if not, better, happenings for this evening, than last year. Plan to keep Saturday, Jan. 20, open for this event. More on this will come, later. % DEATHS MAR HOLIDAYS Our sincere sympathies to the family of Bill Martinec. Bill's dad passed away in his Chicago home on the morning of Christmas eve. He was 83 at the time of death. Bill and Ruth spent the entire week with his mother in the city, following the funeral. Friends of this area were sorry to hear of tfie passing of Alex Friend of Chicago last week. Alex and his wife, Margaret, were frequent visitors out here as most of their relatives resided hereabouts. Mr. I} Friend was buried in St. Mary's cemetery following the funeral rites in the city. LADY FORESTER NOTES St. Agatha Court 7771 National Catholic Society of Foresters, will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 8 p.m. in the Johnsburg Community club Tiall. The card tournament will progress following the business meeting. Committee for the evening will be headed by Marie Oeffling. Her helpers will be Elaine Townsend, Estelle Klapperich, Lorraine Hiller, Esther Schneider, Martha Oeffling and Caroline Deidrich. St. Agatha court is also celebrating the fiftieth anniversary o f its institution on Sunday, Feb. 11. A Mass will be said at 12 o'clock followed by a dinner ahd reception in the community club hall. The members may invite their husbands or a guest to the celebration. For reservations or information, please call Marie Oeffling or Virginia Pitzen on or before Feb. 3. The court is also interested in obtaining pictures of some of the activities of the court in its 50 years. They would only be on loan for the celebration and will be^returned. HOSPITAL PATIENT We are! happy to report that Bill Haag is .at home with his family after a stay in the Mc- Henry hospital. Bill was stricken Christmas moaning and taken into the hospital- where he remained until the early part of last week. You can well imagine the dim view this put on their young family's holidays. All are most thankful he is home though. CELEBRATIONS GALORE Cindy Roberts becagie a young lady of thirteen last week and celebrated by having a few girl friends to the house for refreshments and fun. Belated birthday wishes to hotice Vehicle licenses were due Jan. 1, 1968. All vehicle owner in the City limits are required to secure a tage and place it on the windshield. His mom, Gloria, has her special day coming up on the twenty-first. Maria Tomasello received happy returns of the day from her family on the seventh. On the twelfth, Bob Hettermanh will be "man of the day" in his home for his natal day celebrating. Jan. J.5 marks the thirtieth wedding anniversary for Bill arid Ruth Martinec as well as Bob's fifteenth birthday. .T Birthday number sixteen comes up for John Dehn on the twenty-eighth of this month. Many happy wishes to all the celebrants. ENTERTAINING FOLKS Some sixty-five members of the Mike Freund family gathered under one roof for a good old fashioned Christmas party. The George, Richard and Chuck Hillers from our immediate Area were among those pre sent at the party in the community club on Christmas day. Last Friday Olivia and George Hiller hosted a birthday celebration honoring her father's eighty-eighth natal day. Dinner was served to the Dick and Chuck Hiller families, the Frank Murphy family, Olga Buch, Peter Freund as well as Mr. and Mrs. Mike Freund. Mr. and Mrs. George Logsdon of Alvada, Ohio, were recent weekend guests in the home of the Arnold Michels family. The Emil Debrechts returned recently after spending a very enjoyable holiday time with their daughter and family in Buffalo, New York. VACATION FUN The Tom Cahill family returned to their home in Dutch Creek Woodlands last week after some very warm weeks in Florida. The Cahills took off in their new trailer prior to Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed leaving all the holiday hustle and bustle behind them. They camped out all the while they stayed in the sunny climate. It was a little hard coming back to our sub-zero weather, as you can well imagine. SPECIAL REASON FOR CELEBRATION Bob and Mig Joyce are in line for special congratulations this week. This nice couple celebrated their silver wedding anniversary over this past weekend. They greeted many of their relatives and friends at a reception in the Johnsburg Community club hall Saturday evening. A Mass was read in their honor at St. John's church prior to the reception. The farm,,which is better known as the William Hutson farm is located about three miles west of McHenry and is occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Emil Herdrich. The barn was full of hay and corn fodder and all kinds of feed. Sixteen cows and, four horses were also in the1 barn and were burned along with everything else. A real hot basketball fight is on the cards for Friday evening of this week at the Mcr Henry high school gym when the Jelke Good Lucks from Huntley meet the team from the McHenry Amateur Athletic club. The Jelkes have defeated all the teams in the territory, including Woodstock and it is claimed there are few Cerebral Palsy drive. If you wish to contribute is your own business but please give these volunteers all the courtesy they deserve; If it remains as cold as it has b£en, why not invite them in for just a moment to warm up. Hats off to these young people on handling this project. BROWNIES NEED HELPERS There will be a new Brownie troop started in this area if help can be lined 19. A local woman is looking for mothers to work with her in this endeavor. She would prefer to have a woman who has had some scouting experience as she has had none, but please don't let that stop you from volunteering as aU she wants are willing hands. If you have a daughter in the second and third grade level and wish to get into Brownies please call 4570 now and Nancy Marcotte will be glad to put you in contact with this lady. Don't let it scare you as there is schooling that will be set up so you really can be orientated according to the program. Like I said before, all that is really needed is willing workers. After the leaders are taken care of, there will also be a need for committee women, so please call Nancy if you are at all interested. It would be nice to have a Brownie troop here. Mrs. Maria R. Cummings passed away at her home at Pistakee Bay, Jan. 8. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fleming are the happy parehts of a 9 lb. son born at Woostock hospital. The young man will answer to the name of John Anthony. His father plans to made a Fordson tractor salesman of the youngster. Mrs. Walter Harrisoir-of Ringwood very pieasamly entertained at a shower for Mrs. Stanley Thomas a recent bride. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Jan. 14, 1943) Rev. Paul Tucjpinsky of St. Mary's Catholic church will leave for Ro^kford Jan. 22 where he will act at chaplain at St. Anthony's hospital and also serve as pastor at Davis Junction Which is 14 miles frotai Rockford. Mr. and Mrs. William Rothermel have moved from the Phannenstill farm near Lily Lake to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Rothermel on Riverside drive. Mrs. M.J. Walsh and daughters, Mary and Dorothy, and Miss Louise Walsh attended a pre-nuptial shower for Miss Sue Stone in Woodstock. Miss Stone became the bride of James Walsh of McHenry on Saturday. Mrs. C.W. Goodell and Miss Ethel Jones attended a per-; formance of " Porgy and Bess}' in Chicago one evening last week. Within the last .few weeks the McHenry County Rationing, Board with the assistance of many volunteers has completed its work on applications for gasoline aild fuel oil.
