HONOR GUEST AT SHOWER : Pam Marshall was a surprised young lady when she walked into the community club hall last Sunday afternoon with the idea she was attending a bridal shower for a friend. Pam , turned out to be the recipient of all the lovely gifts. Gifts of all kinds were opened by the bride-to-be and each one ijirill be put to excellent use after her marriage on Feb. 10. The shower was hostessed by her attendants. The future bride is the daughter of Dick and Connie Marshall. WELCOME HOME A hearty "Welcomehome"to .Dick Hansen., son of Emltt and |Marie Hansen. Dick was recently discharged after serving In the army for two years. Most ^of this time was spentin Korea, i To all our boys who are either jfjBerving now, or have served, %re owe the biggest thanks ever. May the Good Lord bless and watch over you wherever you are. CONGRATULATIONS CORNER v Twenty-two seems to be a 385-1296 most popular number during this month of February. That is what Pam Marshall reaches on the seventh, Kathy Hettermann on the sixth, Sandy Hettermann on the eleventh and Diane Stilling on the twentyfirst. If my memory serves me right, Nancy Kay Miller also celebrates this natal day early this month. Best of wishes to Sheila Marshall who will be a young lady of 17 Feb. 2. Also in line for happy wishes is her mom Harriette who has her day of celebration coming up on Feb. 15. Eighteen is the magic number in a young lady's world and this is so for Carol Ann Dehn on Feb. 22. The Roberts household will be doing some double celebrating again this year. Dolores has her birthday this month and she and Emitt will be observing anniversary number fourteen cm the twentieth. David Oeffling will celebrate birthday number fourteen on the thirteenth. Feb. 1 will mark the fourth wedding anniversary of Phil and Jan Bartmann. While next week the same anniversary will be observed by Bill and Kathy Buetel. And once again on the day of hearts and flowers, Valentine's Day, will find Dick and Connie Marshall chalking up another year of "togetherness'. Many happy wishes to these folks and all the others who have reason to celebrate in February. FINAL REMINDER FOR RESERVATIONS This will be the last time I will be able to remind all the members of St. Agatha court No. 777, National Society of Foresters, about the reservations for dinner which will be held in observance of the fiftieth anniversary. The dinner and reception will be held in the Johnsburg Community club hall following the Mass which will be celebrated at noon in St. John's church, on Feb. 11. Members attending the Mass are asked to meet in the school prior to the service. ^Reservations for dinner must be made by Feb. 4. Please call either 385-1259 or 385-6171. You may bring your husband or guest with you on this day of celebration. Refreshments will be served duringthe course of the afternoon. Call now so you can help the court in celebration of this great occasion. SON RETURNS HOME Joy reigns supreme in the Charlie Smith home this week. Their - son, Dennis, returned home last Saturday evening after two years in the army. Twenty months of this time was spent in Germany. The Smiths braved the terrible fog to pick up their son at CHare Airport. Welcome home to you, Dennis. HAPPY WANDERERS Harry Hettermann and a former army buddy returned this week after a delightful two weeks in Florida. They toured the various places and soaked up a lot of the beautiful sunshine. They spent some of their time visiting with Harry's aunt and uncle, the Jack Keenans, in Pompano Beach. Talk about a thrill of a lifetime -- what could be more thrilling than flying to Hawaii. And that is just what Ed and Dorothy Hettermann did last Sunday morning. After being present for the wedding ceremony in Honolulu of their son Joe and Pat Doherty, the Hettermanns and the two couples that made the trip with- them, spent several days sightseeing there and then went onto island hopping. Can you imagine all the tales they will have to tell upon their return home? The bride-to-be was delayed for a short time in Milwaukee because of the fog on Sunday and needless to say this caused a few anxious moments. The wedding was to take place on Monday. Joe flew in from Vietnam and will spend about six days with his new bride before returning to his duties. A happy celebration was planned for the newlyweds following the chapel service by his parents. The wonderful thing about this trip is Joe had no idea his parents would be there. What a happy and tearful surprise that must have been when he saw Ed and Dot along with the four other familiar faces, besides Pat's. There will be lots more to write about after Ed and Dot return so I will give a few more details then. MOTHER FASHIONS DAUGHTER'S BRIDAL OUTFIT Barbara Diane Murphy was vone of the loveliest brides last Saturday when she married Arnie Berry at St. Patrick's church at 1 p.m. She was positively beautiful in a bridal out- ,, fit of white peau de soie, made by her mother, Mary. Barbara lived with her parents at 1720 N. Knoll avenue, McHenry, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Murphy. Sewing the bridal outfit is special, because Mary works full time in town. Details of the wedding appear on the society page. About 150 invited guests gathered at the V.F.W. home for the reception. Hie village was represented by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Nelson who have known Arnie since his parents first moved to the community. Their son, Ken, and Arnie have been fast friends through grade school, high and college years. Others from this area included this reporter' and husband, Jake, Michael Reid and Timothy Tomasello. The party really started s winging when the orchestra arrived and couples of all ages were observed doing (or trying to do) the latest dance steps. Lots of wriggling and writhing! Parents of the groom, Barbara and Harry Berry, were observed on the dance floor, too. The newly wedded couple postponed their wedding trip until Arnie graduated from A. I.T. and before he enters O. C.S. in Virginia. Barbara and Arnie make a handsome couple and we wish them every happiness in their married life. HONOR PAST PRESIDENTS An illustrious group who qualify as past presidents of the American Legion Auxiliary met at the home of Marie Howe, Thursday, Jan. 25, when she and Dorothy Diedrich served as hostesses. During the evening, the women cut 101 hankies out of white sheets for the veterans at Elgin State hospital. MARCH OF DIMES DRIVE Residents of the community were visited last Tuesday for donations to the March of Dimes. Mary Kantorski is chairman of the drive and was aided by members of the Teen club, Mrs. Gerry Jensen, and other young women and girls of the village. We shall print the results of that drive and the Cerebral Palsy collection in the next column. LOCAL LADS IN WINTER CAMPOREE Boy Scout Troop 131 scored a blue ribbon during the winter camporee near Huntley over a recent weekend. The entire Blackhawk participated in the program, aptly titled "Yukon Breakthrough". The young lads andtheir dads built fires, aided the "injured" and simulated an ice rescue. To win the blue ribbon, the troop members scored 925 points out of a possible 1000. Local males included Bruce Walter and his dad, Bill; Kenny Betts, Clayton Patzke; Scott Lundy and Billy Schmidt and his father, Bill, who is also an assistant Scoutmaster. Many men in prominent positions in our country had Scout training which also teaches young men to participate in all . patriotic endeavors of their country and we feel these boys and their fathers are to be commended.
