Tony Wagner won at 154, and undefeated Jim Laursen won as expected at 180. Two other Warrior hustlers came in second, with Guy Hansen turning the trick at 103 and rapidly improving Ken Wahl at 145, Third place honors went to Jim Sobacki at 95 and Don Voight at 133, and Mike Antonicelli at 165. The Warrior scoring ended with Dennis Justen and Jerry Leim gaining fourth place honors, certainly tiiis n«s a fabulous team effort, and credit should go out for a job well done to a terrific group of wrestlers. This weekend it's state tournament time, so check the Plaindealer sports calendar for time, date and place. Sportsmen Celebrate 17th Year ' li l|M. The phone rang Monday morning as it does so often on Monday mornings. But, this call was different. It wasn't a Cub fan or somebody asking us to donate to a worthy cause. Visiting here from way out California way is the former Plaindealer Columnist "Meanderin' Mary". She wanted!)remind us that Notre Dame didn't fare so well with California last fall. We hardly remembered, but Mary did and gave us a good natured ribbing. Miry leans toward the Dodgers in baseball wars, but is fair enough to'say that it is a good thing to pass those penants around. We do, too. And we repeat that it would be just fine if both the Cubs and Sox (honestly) could win so we could match them in a World Series. The Wauconda Sportsmen's Club Inc. celebrated their 17th year of successful sportsmanship at vtheir annual banquet held „at Floyd's Restaurant in Carpentersville on Saturday, January 27. "Hard Working Donkey" awards were presented to the 1967 officers and board members. Herb Thomas gave a departing speech as the outgoing president of 1967 and Ken Glysing was welcomed into office as the new president for 1968. Fred Amour of Island Lake, assisted by his wife, Madeline, acted as master of ceremonies for the event and related some unusual stories and comments about his mythical stupid secretary "Freidalinka Gadoynka". The evening was climaxed with a group of sensational songs and dances by Shirley Smith and Nancy Gardner of M^:- Henry. Club member James DeNova of Wauconda reluctantly became a part of the floor show,' doing a Polynesian dance while his wife Elsie looked on in amazement. By Bert Hagemann T.ie Warriors continued their season long losing streak |his past weekend, bowing to the Broncos of Barrington by the margin of 78-56. This game fell into the pattern of most other losses as McHenry stayed close for a half, then fell before their opponents second half onslaught. The Warriors cou'd not penetrate the shifting Bronco zone with any degree of effectivenss, and their own defense was sieve like enough to allow the burly red clad Broncos to pierce it repeatedly for easy scores. John English pumped in 26 points, mostly from outside, to lead the Bronco attack, while Gary Fairchild enjoyed one of his finest varsity evenings in leading all Warrior scorers with 16 counters. The Warriors played things tight to their vest in the first half, and when they trudged into the locker room at half time, they found themselves still definitely in the ball game, as they trailed by a count of 33- 28. On this particular evening however, McHenry savgd its bad quarter until the third stanza, as they fell to pieces under a 22 point Barrington barrage, while they could only manage a meager 10 points. John English led the assault, with ample assistance from his big front Fine mates, M'.irdock and Showers. With the game decided, the fourth quarter saw both coaches begin to empty their benches, and it was "wait until next week" again for the McHenry hopefuls. As the Warriors round into the hon? stretch of this very long season, the question being raised now is if M?Henry can win a game (period) this season. With the huge Cats of Libertyville at M:Henry this weekend, and then Zion and Woodstock the following weeks, it becomes a guessing game as to whether this group of athletes will experience any modicum of success or not. This Friday is our next to last home game of the season, see you there.
