SINCERE SYMPATHY EXTENDED TO CAGLES Our sincere sympathy is extended to Mary Cagle at this time, with the passing away of her mother, Mrs. Ada Payne, in Alabama. Mary and Wallace spent last week with their relatives and returned to Ringwood on Friday. VISITING SON Frank Kempfer is spending a few days visiting with his son, Frank Kempfer, Jr., and family in Genoa. AROUND TOWN Mr. and Mrs. Ray Page of McHenry spent Sunday afternoon and evening in the home of Mrsi Ruby Shepard. Mr. and Mrs. John Hogan, Jr., and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ackerman attended the Black Hawk Hockey game in Chicago on Wednesday evening. Poor Georgia B., didn't get in again!!! Miss Mae Wiedrich and Mrs. Flora Carr called on their aunt, Sara Coates, in the Rest Home in Woodstock on Thursday. Mrs. Allen Ainger of Hebron spent Thursday visiting with her Mother, Mrs. Ruby Shepard, who has been a victim of the flu bug. On Friday, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wiedrich of Burlington called on Mrs. Fred Wiedrich, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. James Wiedrich and family also called on Mrs. Wiedrich. Pearl Sanders and Betty Fiala of Wonder Lake called on Mrs. Ruby Shepard on Tuesday. Well, once again it's the end of the column. How about a call if you have anything for the news? COUNTDOWN FOR SCE FISHING DERBY WEEKEND : The shelter has been erected for housing bait, fishing equipment, and the sale of fishing licenses and refreshments at the, beach in preparation for the third annual ice fishing derby, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 17 and 18. The starting gun will be fired at 9 a.m. With the tremendous amount of publicity, including releases to more than twenty-five daily and weekly newspapers, nine radio stations and five TV stations, record crowds are expected. All roads leading to the derby will be marked for the. benefit of strangers to the area. More details appear on the sports page of the Plaindealer. Credit for erecting the shelter must go to chairman, Bill Gleeson, Ron Godina, Len Jensen, Ken Betts, Jim Schultz, A1 Kanak, Gene Adams and Ray Fisher. Elaine Gleeson was on haftd to lend moral support. Two days of working the fish derby will be an arduous task, and any of the women of the community who can spare even an hour's time for work in the shelter will be very much appreciated. The grand prize being offered is a colored television set, and appliances, sports equipment and other valuable awards will be given to lucky recipients. All profits from the winter sports event will be use<f to enlarge presient beachhouse facilities and for lake^conservation. " OPEN HOUSE" FOR GOLDEN WEDDING Emma and Otto Pyritz, who have endeared themselves to village and area residents since 1933 will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary, Sunday, Feb. 18, with an "open house" affair, beginning at 1 p.m, All neighbors, friends, and relatives are cordially invited to visit them at their home, 5218 W. Fountain Lane. Their complete history appeared in Wednesday's issue of the Plaindealer. The two have been active in all phases of community efforts and have not spared any effort to be of service throughout the years. Otto has served as organist for the Masonic lodge for 30 years, been employed at McGee's for 22 years, and has entertained children and adults for an entire lifetime. Emma served as secretary of the Cullom-Knoll, was village clerk for three terms, assisted on election boards, and has been active in the Ladies of the Lake. The two are deserving of special attention on this very special milestone in their lives. Best wishes from a grateful community! NOTES FROM THE VILLAGE BOARD All village officials were present at the last meeting, Wednesday, Feb. 7, except trustee Harry Lock. Compulsory garbage collection came in for more discussion. A survey will be made of village intersections to determine if stop signs may be necessary in some places. The next meeting will b6 held Wednesday, 'March 6, at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. There will be no other meeting this month. LADIES OF THE LAKE The women thoroughly enjoyed the white elephant auction which was held during the Thursday, Feb. 8 meeting of the Ladies of the Lake. In the absence of Louise Hammerstein who is ill in McHenry hospital, president Carrie Kurth handled the gavel as auctioneer. A profit of $14 was realized from the proceedings. Some of the items included canister sets, new sets of slippers, and a variety of useful household items. According to the report, it was so enjoyable, a similar sale is being plannod for a future meeting. Mrs. Hammerstein sent a thank you note for the flowers she received from the club, with an apology for her absence. Cecilia Swedberg and Lorraine Boyle supplied "tasty pastry" for the social session, and Susan Klaber was welcomed as a new member. Plans are afoot for another krazy hat party in April and will be discussed at the March meeting. Louise Berquist, Emma Pyritz , Petey Schmidt, Irene Johnson, Sue Klaber, Margaret Herzog, Lois Parenti and Alice Gustafson walked off with the prizes during the games. ATTENDS POLITICAL MEETING Theresa Schultz, representative Democratic committeeman, 33rd District, met with other members of her group last Tuesday in Marengo to determine whether to endorse one or two candidates for the State House of Representatives.' UNDERGOES SURGERY Wee Daureen Parenti is minus her tonsils and adenoids following surgery at McHenry hospital last Friday. She entered on Thursday and came home Saturday for recuperation. She has had a rather painful time with ear drainage, but should be in fair condition by this time. ATTEND NUPTIALS IN OHIO The Nixon family,, Kay, Bob and Becky, flew to Martin's Ferry, Ohio, last weekend to attend Kay's brother's wedding. Her mother,-Mrs. Thelma Harper, left earlier in the week. SERVICEMEN'S ADDRESSES Bill Smith and Jeff Levesque are deep in school books at two different Marine bases following graduation from boot training and advanced infantry training.
