FRI., FEB., 2Q, 1968 r- PLAINDEALER - PG. 9 1 1 lBsur Guide Winter Campout Hie Lake Region YMC A's second annual winter campout for fathers and sons in Indian Guides was held at the George Williams college camp. Seventy- six boys and sixty-six fathers journeyed to the center for Continuing Education at Williams Bay, Wis., for the weekend's activities, which included outdoor programs of hiking, skating, ice sledding, and indoor activities of ping pong, crafts, songs, stories and skits. The object of the, outing was to provide fathers and their sons who are in the first through third.grades, with an opportunity to share experiences of fun, fellowship and education in a pleasant, outdoor atmosphere. Seventeen of the nineteen tribes in the Lake Region YMCA's tribal nation were represented at the outing, and every tribe present volunteered for certain responsibilities to help make the weekend a success for everyone. The weekend program began on Saturday afternoon with the Commanche and Kickapoo tribes handling the duties of welcoming and room assignments. The Miami tribe ably arranged the display of tribal properties and crafts. All articles on exhibit were made by members of the tribes. During the weekend, boys and their dads were given opportunities to engage in planned outdoor and indoor activities. Free time was set aside to allow pairs to pursue other interests at their leisure. Saturday evening's program was planned by Algonquin, Mohawk, Crow, Miami, and Shoshone tribes and included opportunities for singing, skits, and a project of making paper planes. The planes were judged on the distance they fly, the most acrobatic plane, and the most unusual plane that flies. After the Sunday noon meal, tribal awards were presented to the representative s of the tribes that had succeeded in accomplishing performance records of a special and unusual nature. Green fathers were presented to all those present signifying campout attendance. The Indian Guide program is available throughout the Vs service area and every boy in first through third grades, and his dad, who are not now in the program are encouraged to inquire at the "y about details. on how they may join. The Crystal Lake Program center, at 65 N. Williams street, is open week days from 9 to 5 p.m. and Saturday mornings to provide information for prospective guides. YEAR SALE!
