"Tractor pulling has become very popular," Rust stated. "The fair featured its first contest in 1967 and we are expanding it to a state championship competition in 1968". The event is scheduled for Aug. 13 and 14. In connection with this fast-growing sport, the IllinoisTractor Pulling association was formed in Springfield to promote tractor pulling competition in Illinois. MCHENRY SHOP IN Teachers in the Junior high have been spending much of their unscheduled time working on curriculum revision. They have been analyzing their present course offerings, hoping to revise course offerings to fit the current needs of the modern Junior high school students. This revised curriculum will be incorporated with modular scheduling during the academic year of 1968-69. Modular scheduling is a way of saying that not all subjects need the same amount of time; nor do all areas need to meet five days a week. Students' and faculty need flexibility built into their day in order that the needs and interests of this age will be better provided for. Speedy recovery to you both. : The 1968 Mid-Winter Conference, Women of the Moose, gathered on the afternoon of March 10 at McHenry Moose Home, 2816 West Route 120, with McHenry Women of the Moose 1348 as the hostess chapter. Woodstock, Harvard, Fox Lake and Antioch also participated throughout the program. Senior Regent Marcella Strossner, McHenry., was the leader of the program. The address of welcome was given by Jr. Graduate Regent Gloria Flannigans McHenry; with the response given by Gwen Stolldorf, Woodstock. The College of Regents ceremony march, directed by Hazel Struwe, McHenry, was very beautiful, ending with the presentation of a red stole to Marjorie Fernstrom, McHenry; sponsored by Arlene Connour. Red stoles were also presented to Gertrude Good, Antioch; and Eveline Young, Harvard. Leonie Kennedy and Cassie Hoch, Woodstock, were pages. Enrollment of new candidates for the McHenry chapter were Gertrude Freund and Helen Fuhr, sponsored by Alyce Kowal; Lenore Freund and Geraldine Mular sponsored by Marcella Strossner (the latter being Marcella's daughter); Patricia Knapik, sponsored by Bonnie Heinz; and Karen Pierce sponsored by Helen Neilson. There were also two candidates enrolled for the Woodstock chapter. An address on Mooseheart was given by Ruth Werner of Fox Lake, an address on Moosehaven given by Jerri Poison, Antioch. The last address was given by Grand Chancellor Edna Wille of Woodstock. Fox Lake was selected as hostess chapter for 1969. The roll call of chapters showed Harvard, 21; Woodstock, 20; Fox Lake, 19; Antioch, 36; Chicago Lawn, 1 and McHenry 39. This ceremony was one of the most beautiful to be held each year, with all the women in their formals. ^ After adjournment, the social hour was held in the Moose home with a lovely and delicious beef dinner served by the men of McHenry Lodge 691. VACATION FOR THE ETTENS Bill and Elaine Etten, Wonder Center, along with George and Marie Bell, Burlington, Wis., have just returned from a vacation by jet which included two weekends in Las Vegas. Committee members headed by Alvin "Andy" Anderson McHenry county commander, are pointing to a very eventful celebration. Plans are to invite many city dignitaries, district, county and state Legion officers and their wives. The festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m. on March 23 with a cocktail hour and a fine dinner will be served by the post auxiliary beginning at 7:30 p.m. Immediately following the dinner will be an address by the State Commander of the American Legion Russell Bieritz and other dignitaries.
