Cancer Crusade Chairmen The Drivers Seat Getting killed quickly is the least that can happen to you in an automobile accident. Consider the problems of your family if you, the father, suddenly become a cripple - and mother must go to work. Consider the loss of-a job while you take several weeks to recover from injuries. Consider recurring, though non-crippling, pain that plagues you the rest of your life. If you do die against a tree or crushed in the wreckage of two cars, consider the shock and prolonged anquish of your children, your wife and tiusband, your close friends. Consider all these things and then drive more carefully. Some people die under such grisly circumstances that the vision of their death haunts their survivors for years: --An elderly New Hampshire woman ended her life slowly and painfully as she struggled for breath while pinned under her auto. --A 72-year-old man stepped from behind a parked vehicle into the path of a car. He sustained fractures of both l,egs, bruises and shock and died in the hospital four days later. As if dying were not enough, love rubs salt into gaping wounds when a tiny child dies of a broken neck; when entire families perish; when a fiance is killed; when the father or both parents of many children leave home and never return. The teen-age daughter of a man who had been badly crippled in an accident wrote a letter to the local newspaper after she saw an accident similar to the one that crippled her father: "One car -had the driver's seat smashed, jusl^ke in Dad's car. I started to cry as the memories rushed through me. When I finally pulled myself together, a song on the radio was ending with: It's all over. mi WED., MAR. 20, 1968 - PLAIN DEALER - PG. 5 A lasting Memento of Mother or others, for Mother's Day, Father's Day, Anniversary, or Birthdays. Co - chairmen to spearhead the 1968 Cancer Crusade in Richmond township were'named this week - Mrs. Susan Nillis and Mrs. Susan Brown. The two housewives were appointed by Arnold May, Richmond, chairman for the Cancer Crusade which begins April with a county-wide goal of $20,000. The Cancer Crusade, involving more than 500 volunteers, actually is a two-pronged effort, May said. Workers distribute informational material on ways to spot the Hanger signals that warn the possible presence of cancer. They also invite citizens to contribute toward the county's Crusade goal of $20,000. That was the amount gathered in 1966 during the major campaign when May was the Crusade chairman. The exact total was $20,924. Mrs. Brown, who is a high school teacher (French, English and history), says she has joined the Crusade because she believes responsible citizens must take part in the charitable activities. Her hobbies are swimming and painting. Her husband is secretary of the local PTA and is a member of the Richmond- Burton high school board. Her son is a reporter/writer for a newspaper. Mrs. Nillis, who has two children, lives in Spring Grove. A resident of THE BI*62 FORS'^H-- teen years, she and her family belong to the Methodist church, take part in PTA, and help with the Spring Grove horse fair. Her husband is a school teacher at McHenry grade school. NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN FURNACE CLEANING One of the latest developments in residential and industrial furnace cleaning has been introduced by Sherman Plumbing & Heating, Inc. of Crystal Lake. It is their "Power-Vac" truck which not only cleans furnaces, but registers, ducts and chimneys, too! These dirt-catchers are out of sight and out of reach with ordinary cleaning - and, of course, the housewife nas noway to reach them. Even new houses need the ducts cleaned as plaster and other things fall into them during the building process. The truck operates on the vacuum principle with 12 big bags to catch the dirt that the powerful suction hose pulls out. Sherman feels that "You've Never Been So Clean Before", and is happy to be able to add this service to the many services they provide for residences and industries in the area. Adv. Special Offer!
