Five seek to fill two vacancies in High School District 156. They are Elisabeth Nolan of 3320 W. Fairway drive, Dr. Leslie Krieger of 3420 %, Elm street, Edward A. Guettler of 2418 N. MacArthur drive, Lloyd G. Freund of 3711 N. St. John's avenue and Clint Claypool of 4212 W. Ponca street. The only incumbent is Dr. Krieger. Voting in District 156, as in all others, will be from noon to 7 p.m. Voters for high school candidates will go to four polling places in the districts as follows. Precinct 1: High School, gym entrance, for those who live in Ringwood, McHenry, Eastwood Manor, Shalamar, Aqua Lane, Huemtmn's, Oakwood, Hickory Grange, Indian Ridge, Edgebrook Heights, McHenry Shores, Worthmore Estates, Whispering Oaks, Cooney Heights, Val-Mar, Wonderview, Hunterville Park, Woodlawn Park, Fair Oaks, Mineral Springs, Edgewater, Emerald Park, Oakhurst , Orchard Heights, Country Club Estates, Weingart's, Lakeland'Park, Bull Valley, Bay View Lane and Regner Road area. YOUTH ATTACKED WHILE CLOSING SERVICE STATION Sixteen - year-old Anthony Koleno of Sunnyside drive, McHenry, was admitted to McHenry hospital with a possible concussion suffered when he was attacked by intruders while at work at the Kean service station, east of the bridge, on Rt. 120, Tuesday evening about 11:20. The youth was closing for the night and had just turned out the lights when the attack occurred. One of the popular plans among many members of Congress is a combination of federal help in attracting new industry with federal loans and grants for building works projects, including items such as new streets, libraries, sewer systems, etc. - Even the individual taxpayer who sees the reasoning behind the theory that such areas (Continued on page 16) College Board Vote Saturday An election will be conducted to fill two three-year terms on the board of McHenry County college on Saturday April 13. The polls will be open at 10 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m. There are three candidates running for these positions including the two incumbents. Mrs. Joan Hill andE.C. Nichols are running for re-election. R. Patrick Malone is challenger for a position on the board. The polling places established for this election have been based upon the high school districts included within the college district, including 1 - Residents of the McHenry, Alden- Hebron, 'and Richmond-Burton high school districts will vote at their respective high school buildings. Set Clean-up Weeks In City Spring Clean-up week in McHenry is planned for late April and early May. Announcement was made this week that pick-ups on the north side ofRt. 120 will be conducted from April 22 through 27 and the south side from April 29 through May 4. Those wishing to dispose of unwanted items are asked to place containers and items on the tree bank. No ashes or garbage will be collected. PEDESTRIAN HURT WHEN HIT BY CAR AT INTERSECTION Mrs. Elizabeth C. Thompson of 3519 W. Pearl street, Ms- Henry, sustained injuries to the head and left side of the body when she was struck by a car at the intersection of Elm and Green street Thursday morning. The full extent of her injuries had not been determined "at McHenry hospital. Mrs. Thompson was walking south across Elm street on the west side of the intersection when she was struck by Terrence P. Doran of 3803 W. Kane street, who was making a left turn off Green street. Through action by Assistant Supervisor Edward Buss of McHenry last Tuesday, progress was made toward resolving the court house issue. Buss suggested a vote on the fairgrounds property which resulted in a 13 to 11 favorable response. The matter will now go before the Building commission, which is expected to give its stamp of approval since only one site is being offered for consideration. This would mean that the proposition will be placed on the ballot next November. Because the site is within the city limits of the county seat, only a simple majority is required for passage. By unanimous vote, Walter Dfj.in of McHenry was elected to his second year as chairman of the board. In other action, the board approved requesting the state to make application to the Department of Housing and Urban Development for Urban Planning Assistance of the federal government, asking aid in a continuing plan for the county. The total cost of the program was set at not more than $45,-" 000, of which the county's share would not exceed $15,000 and theremainder to be provided by the government. A population projection gives McHenry county an eventual total of $300,000. TAX BREAKDOWN Assistant Supervisor Buss asked for a breakdown on taxes collected, suggesting that this be provided to taxpayers along with their annual bill, as done in some other counties. Treasurer Cal Skinner explained that the process, without a computer, would be costly if broken down for each taxpayer, and under any otherplantoo time-consuming at this late date. However, some type of break-down is expected in the future, possibly next year. The suggestion was made to inqlude the pie chart showing how many cents of the average McHenry county tax dollar is (Continued on page 16) Beauty And The Beast Serve Postal Patrons i \# r In recent weeks, a pretty and very friendly young lady named Dolores Piotrowski has been a familiar site on the streets covered by City Postal Route 2. The 22-year-old girl, who lives with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Piotrowski, at 4917 W. McCullom Lake road, has been replacing the regular pojstman, Alex Justen, during a well earned vacation. During these five weeks, she has daily walked the long city route, providing a cheery smile along with the mail. Miss Piotrowski has been an employee of the post office for about fourteen months, carrying on a variety of services which she describes as "very interesting". % On week days, except for her special assignment, she works on parcel posts, sorts mail, occasionally walks the city routes or do£s an assortment of other detailed work. The young mail carrier finds the outdoor work to her liking as she has always enjoyed outdoor sports. One, of her favorite leisure time hobbies is working with a horse she has raised since birth. During the past five weeks she has gained the friendship of a faithful canine called Miss Chips, which is owned by Mr. and Mrs. Howard Useman.
