ENRY SHORES BSBNICE WILSON 395-4380 TS3KNEUHARTHS EM JOY TMiP TO HAWAII John and Rose Neuharth left 05 Hare airport on March 24 for Los Angeles and with 194 other passengers, all Shriners and their families took off in the largest passenger plane in the world for the Island. After being welcomed they went to their hotel where they were given a day of leisure to explore, swim, go sailing or shop ib the many stores on the island. The next morning they went on an all day tour of Oahu, saw Pearl Harbor, Schofield Barracks, pineapple fields and sugar plantations, passed Waimea Bay as they drove to Laie an<3 the Mormon Temple. A coastline drive along Windward Oahu through Punaluu, Kaaawa and Kaneohe with a stop at the famous Pali Lookout, and then back to the hotel. After a day of rest they all donned their muumuus and Aloha shirts and went to the Hilton Hawaiian village hotel for a Luau. The next trip took them to the Kewalo Basin where they boarded a boat and saw Pearl Harbor, saw Battleship row, the sunken Arizona and Utah, Hickam Field and viewed Honolulu Harbor, the mountains and Diamond Head. The next day, bright and early, they flew to Kauai for an all. day tour. Motoring up the winding road to view the famed Waimea Canyon and then to Kalalau Lookout to see the Valley of the Lost Tribe. After seeing the Spojting Horn, a natural salt water geyser they proceeded to Wailua to enjoy a river boat excursion. After landing they all took a short walk to the Fern Grotto where thousands of lush ferns grow downward from the roof of the Evergreen Cave. Early next morning they left from Lihue Airport for the flight to Maui, where they saw Mt. Haleakal and Wailuku, the Iao Valley, then lunch and the drive to Lahaina and the points of interest around the area. After dinner and a night of rest they spent the next day relaxing. On Monday they left the Kahului Airport for the flight to Hawaii. After a good lunch they saw the Kona Coast, St. Peter's Chapel by the Sea, the Royal Slide, Keauhou Bay, Keei Battlefield, and St. Michael's Coral Grotto. On the last day they toured "the city of Hilo, via the Kau desert, saw the Nauna Loa lava flow, the Black sand beach at Punaluu, the Sulphur Banks, Steam Vents, Thurston Lava Tube, Kilauea Crater, the National Park area and the world famous Volcano House. After lunch they motored to Hilo, where they visited an Orchard nursery, scenic Rainbow falls and a Lauhala Weaving center. Then to the airport and the homeward journey. While in Hilo the Neuharths tried to reach John and Daisy Smith, but they said there were so many Smiths in the directory that it was impossible. Boththe Neuharts agree that the 12 day vacation was just wonderful and - not soon forgotten. Larisa will celebrate her very first birthday, v ANNIVERSARIES Continued happiness to Frank and Lenore Camasta on April 19, Sam and Louise Winters who will have their twenty-second on the twentieth and Harry and Paula Tiggemann on the twenty- second. SON FOR THE VOGLS Belated congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Vogl who added a son to their happy group on March 22 at McHenry hospital. Richard Anthony weighed in at 7 lbs. and 11 ozs. NEWS ITEM Staff Sgt. Benjamin Tibbs, son in law of Reva Peters, is home on leave from Fort Carson, Colo., after having served in Vietnam. After a short leave he will be sent to Germany for 4 months. His wife, Sharon, and their three children are staying in the Shores with 'mom' and will move to Lakeland Park in about a month. Sgt. Tibbs has been in the service of his country for 15 years, so has done more than his share for his country. Howie and Joyce Lexow were treated to dinner and cocktails last Saturday night by one of their relatives who was celebrating his twenty-seventh anniversary by having a get-together, at Lake Geneva, Wis. Hope to report in the next column that he is home again. Barbara Pogor is back home after a few days in McHenry hospital where she had some tests. Get-well quick, Barb, it is almost time to get busy on your garden. CLEAN-UP SUNDAY I hope you've been busy cleaning up the premises, getting all of your unwanted items lined up. You have just 10 days before Clean-up Sunday. I don't want you to use the excuse that you didn't have enough time togetit done. Then, won't you please call Bob Szamlewski and volunteer your help for the pickup. Tliis plan will only be as effective as the effort put into it. If everyone will cooperate we can add to the beautiful surroundings we have here with the river, the lake and many lovely trees, let's not detract from it with untidy homes and yards. Bob's number is 385-2800. WOMEN'S CLUB The Women's club held its April meeting at the Ma,ion home with about twenty members present. The business meeting included reports on the annual banqdet to be held next month on Wednesday, May 15 and a report on the swimming lessons. Mary Mahon reported that to date we have been unable to contact a swimming instructor. Without an instructor, there will be no lessons. If any of you know a qualified instructor, please call Mary MahoaMary also reported that the new raft at the beach has been built by Jim Colberg and ' the carpeting will be put on by Bill Boettcher and Carl Weiss. CONDOLENCES Our sincere sympathy to Jimmie Justes and family on the loss of her mother on Wednesday, April 10. The entire family went to New Jersey for the funeral.
