The teachers were invited. Acting officers were chairman, Jean Schiller; hospitality, Toni Pearson; minutes taken by Anna Wheelock and publicity handled by Myra Murray. L. Wald, principal, discussed new things in education for Valley View for the next school year. With regard to reading "Would we better serve our children grouping them by reading ability rather than by age?*' He opened this and other questions to those attending, also, the basic skills program. A by-laws committee was formed consisting of Judy Felmenten, Charlotte Broman and Toni Pearson. Suggested names for the group are to be given to Mariann Berman or Julia Cepulous before the next meeting date. Mr. Wald and Jean Schiller are to investigate further the sitter situation. Rather than having rotating officers it was voted that the present acting officers continue for a half a school year and the next meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 22. JVLr. Heldt was then introduced fey Mr. Wald and the discussion regarding bus discipline problems was begun. Cards and visiting will follow. remedies to which he conclud-, ed that he would call a meeting of the bus drivers conveying concerns and would report back to Mr. Wald before the next meeting with his findings and decisions. He did indicate that definite steps would be taken to send a list of bus rules home with each student at the beginning of the next school' year in order to obtain the cooperation of the parents as well. Use of the buses for after-school activities was defined as too expensive to be included in the school budget but they could be hired at cost. There was a lengthy discussion on discipline and as to how much authority the teachers had in dealing with these problems. Mr. Anderson, one of the fifth grade teachers, advised of his methods of discipline in the classroom. Most all of the parents present were very much in favor of having the children disciplined while at school. Also a weekly/monthly lunch ticket was suggested and will be discussed further at the next meeting. MCHENRY HOSPITAL Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Ballowe announce the birth of a son April 24. * A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. James'Kruse of Crystal Lake on April 24. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Williams became parents of a son April 25. On April 25 a son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Croak of Crystal Lake. Jones of 324 Willow, Wauconda, on April 26 at Condell Memorial hospital, Libertyville. She has a sister, Deborah, 6 years old, and is the granddaughter of Mrs. Clara Jones of Wonder Lake. Her maternal grammarents are Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Frank of Grayslake. J.M. Schaefers Observe 35th Anniversary . Mr. and Mrs. Joe M. Schaefer, Jr., of 1623 Court street, McHenry, celebrated their thirty- fifth wedding anniversary last Sunday, the day beginning with an 11 o'clock Mass at St. Patrick's Catholic church. Fr. Guzzardo officiated. Making the day complete for the Schaefers was the pf^sence of their children and families, Sister M. Betty Schaefer, R.N. of Milwaukee, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Schaefer, Mark and Paul and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Schaefer, Gary and Sharon, and brothers and sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Huff of Whitewater, Wis., Mr. and Mrs. Frank Adams of McHenry and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schaefer of Milwaukee. TWO McHENRY STUDENTS ON DEAN'S LIST Eleven percent of the undergraduate students enrolled at Southern Illinois university Carbondale campus were cited by their deans of scholastic distinction during the winter term of school. The quarterly deans' list singled out 1,836 students who achieved at least 4.25 grade averages (out of a perfect 5.0) while carrying at least ^quarter hours of class work. Among them were Ruth D. The umbrellas are from Nine Students To Be Honored For Scholarship Recognition for scholastic excellence will be given 4,387 University of Illinois undergraduates May 3 in the university's forty-third annual Honors Day convocation. Dr. Rhoten A. Smith, president of Northern Illinois university, will deliver the Honors Day address. Chancellor J.W. Peltason of the University of Illinois will preside. 1 The convocation will be held at 1:30 p.m. in the Assembly Hall. Classes will be dismissed for the event, which opens activities of Campus Mothers Day weekend. Robert Mencel To Take Bride A July 27 wedding in Calvary Presbyterian church, Riverside Calif., is planned by Linda Patterson and Robert M. Mencel. Three budding young scientists finished their rocket ship the last day of the school year. Naturally each school child was plaqued with uncontrollable curiosity to see the inside of the rocket. Who appeared on the scene but five bugs from Saturn. They secretly installed an atomic motor to power the ship. When B.O. Blair local mayor, his wife, Mrs. Blair and daughter, Laura, with some friends, Miss Cornell, the teacher, and the local sheriff, toured the rocket they suddenly found themselves headed for the moon. Upon their arrival, they were greeted by the former sheriff of Bow-and-Arrow, now " Happy", the Man in the Moon. Does the space ship ever return to earth? The story has a surprise ending in store for you. Dundee, Fox River Grove - Cary, McHenry, Sycamore, Woodstock and Wonder Lake at the annual inspirational meeting held in Crystal Lake. The host club was Fox River Grove- Cary. After a short address and presentation by the past lieutenant governors, Gov. O'Donnell became the bride of Thomas P. Carroll in a double ring ceremony Friday, April 26, in the groom's home. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Roseal O'Donnell, Riverside drive, McHenry and Mr. Carroll is the son of Mrs. James (Bobbie)Carroll,of James Street, McHenry and the late James, Sr. The Honorable Judge John Kaufman presided as the couple exchanged vows. For the informal nuptials, the former Miss O'Donnell chose a mint green lace street length, frock with an A-line skirt, rounded neckline and three quarter length sleeves. Her head was covered with a white lace mantilla and she wore a corsage of white and green orchids and complementing accessories. Mrs. James R. (Becky) Carroll, Jr., as maid of honos, wore a navy blue, street length dress, matching accessories and her corsage was pink cymbidium orchids. Robert Kroening, Jr., of Lakeland Park served as best man. Both mothers wore informal costumes with matching accessories. A reception for the bridal party and immediate family was also held in the home of Mrs. Carroll. The young couple left on a honeymoon trip to Ft. Leonardwood, Mo., to visit the groom's brother, James, Jr., whois stationed there with the U.S. Army. The new Mrs. Carroll is a graduate of Mount St. Clair high school, Iowa, and is employed in McHenry. The groom attended McHenry high school and reports to Norfolk, Va., May 1. He has been stationed with the Navy at Great Lakes, 111. He entered the service last August. CAUTION ON TRAILERS Secretary of State Paul Powell has cautioned motorists ^ho plan to pull trailers behind their cars during summer outing trips to be sure the trailer hitch is attached to the car in such a position that it does not partially or completely obscure the rear license plate.- A little advance care in the placement of the hitch at the time it is installed may prevent an arrest later in the season, Mr. Powell said.
