Troop 464 which is a Brownie Troop is in desperate need of leaders for the next season of scouting which begins in September. Mrs. Wickenkamp and Mrs. Foat have submitted their resignations to the, neighborhood council and will not be returning in the fall. Adult leadership offers much ; satisfaction providing you are interested in helping young girls . to grow and develop into young ladies. Brownies are the primary grade of scouting and teaches basic ideas of scouting such as to be a ready helper, a discoverer and a friend maker. If you would like to know more about the program call Bev. Wickenkamp at 385-3069. There are several meetings left in this season and any interested woman is welcome to call about attending a meeting. Brownies include girls in second and third grade. The last meeting of troop 464 opened with the flag ceremony. The girls finished sewing their gifts for their mothers. Each lucky mom of a Brownie received a felt glove case for Mother's Day. They talked about their trip to Brookfield zoo on May 25 and quite a few turned in their permission slips. All the permission slips must be turned in this week as no girl will be allowed to go on the trip without a permission slip signed by her mother or father. If the slip has been lost a written one may be substituted. The bus will be leaving at 9:30 a.m. from Mrs. Wickenkamp* s and all the girls must be there by 9:15 with a sack lunch and a sweater. The hostess for the day was Tammy Rybak. They talked a - bout being a ready helper and then the meeting ended with the majic tunnel. The Girl Scouts from Junior troop 320 who are going on the trip will meet at Mrs. Bierman's house at 9:15 with their lunch and a sweater and money for the porpoise show. The bus will be returning about 5 p.m. GIRL SCOUT TROOP 320 We opened our meeting with an outdoor flag ceremony given by patrol 4. The girls then went into their patrols. Patrol 1 served treats. They sang "Hark to the Chimes" as grace. Mrs. Bierman then gave each patrol a list of things that they were to look for on a scavenger hunt. The first patrol to return and winners was patrol 4. We then discussed plans for a Scouts Own program. Several suggestions came in but none of them were final. The meeting was closed with the retiring of the colors and "Taps" given by patrol 4. Respectfully submitted, Rae Dee Beno, troop scribe. CUB SCOUT PACK 459 The pack meeting will be held on Monday evening, May 20, at the community house beginning at 7:30 p.m. The presentation of the charter will be made and the boys will receive awards earned during the year. Entertainment has been planned and refreshments will be served. The committee'meeting will be held on Thursday, May 23, at 8 p.m. BOY SCOUT TROOP 459 May 7. We opened our meeting with the pledge of allegiance, the Scout oath and laws. We discussed our spring camporee which will be May 24, 25 and|6 in Huntley. It will mainly be^rn Tote-'n-Chip and Paul Bunyan. There will be a tall tale contest a woodcutting contest, and a wood chopping contest. We have to get new tote-'n-chip cards this year. Mr. Koch was at the meeting to tell us about the Rifle club which he is starting. Our troop has recently received a charter from the National Rifle Association and we plan to initiate a program in gun safety and sportsmanship. Eventually we hope to compete with other NRA groups in our area. Eventually we hope to compete with other NRA groups in our area. Permission slips have been sent home with the boys, and they must be signed by a parent in order for the boys to participate. Respectfully submitted, Clark Bierman, Scribe. STROLLING THROUGH THE PARK Hope that all the Moms enjoyed their big day last Sunday. The few days preceding the big event were slightly traumatic with the delivery of the tax bills. THE CHURCH FOR ALL ... -n, ALL FOR THE CHURCH The. Church is the greatest factor on earth for the building of charaft^ ter and good citizenship. It is a"\ storehouse of spiritual values. \ Without a strong Church, neither democracy nor civilization can survive. There are four sound reasons why every person should attend services regularly and support the Church. They are: (1) For his own sake. (2) For his children's sake. (3) For the sake of his cpramunity and nation. (4) For tiie sake of the Church itself, which needs his moral and material support. Plan to go to church regularly and read your Bible daily. He^always there on that busy corner--like thousands oibther paper boys across the land. And he doesn't get discouraged though you ignore him day after day. Give him so much as a glance and you'll hear his hopeful, "PAPER .. . MISTER?" What makes him so ready and eager to serve? It's the certainty that he has something everybody needs. * * * On many corners there are church"es. And they never cease urging you to come . . . always ready ... eager to serve! Here again is the certaiMy of something EVERYBODY needs! What they have has come to be called the Gospel --an ancient word that means "Good News." A few Sundays in church and you'll understand why! ^ Copyright 1968 Keisjer Advertising Service, Inc., Straaburg, Va.
