Public Pulse "To the Editor: "I just couldn't resist the opportunity to commend the author Of 'GRANDMA SEZ' col- Tsrim in the current edition of the Plaindealer (Friday July 12th). "The author, I am convinced, has reference to a plan of the alleged 'McHenry Progressive Group' who is contemplating a business mall in an extension program of the Green street business area. 'Grandma' I am assured, is the typical McHenry citizen, and in all probabilities expresses the popular view-point of countless other s who have contributed to the steady and rapid growth of McHenry. She in her innate desire and wisdom to preserve an image that has been developed over a period of years which could be destroyed completelyso aptly described it 'fer the sake of money'. "Grandma voices the sentiments of so many in good old McHenry that 'the lust fer the •Filthy lucre* is behind ail the terror, greed and death'through the world. "I have been a resident of this area for over forty-five years, and contributed in a modest way; have supported every progressive measure, and many civic and charitable causes to sustain a healthy, successful and growing village. While to some I may appear outdated, I could not at any time* exchange my respect for progress and my love for McHenry for greed or money. I would like to feel like many in the wonderful Fox River valley who could find more comfort in warmer climates: nevertheless, REV. THOMAS L. JOHNSON Rev. Thomas L. Johnson, pastor of Nativity Lutheran church, Wonder Lake, has resigned to accept a call to Bethany Lutheran church, Crystal Lake. Rev. Johnson was born in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, May 2, 1930. He enrolled at Augustana college, Rock Island, in 1948. He graduated in 1952 and entered the U.S. Navy. After serving for four years he entered the seminary at Rock Island. He was ordained in 1960. His first parish was Bethany Lutheran church, Lemont, 111. He served the congregation from 1960-64 at which time he there must be hundreds similarly who look forward to living their 'golden years' in calm expansion with normalprogress in this beautiful countryside without sacrificing the warm and tranquil atmosphere of the city of McHenry. "Please let it grow naturally. "May I remind those in a hurry, it is the courage of people like 'Grandma' that have preserved McHenry for over 100 years. "Sincerely, "Harry E. Eckland" MARY RATH Mary Rath, McHenry County Dairy Princess, will be among pretty banner bearers in the McHenry Marine Festival parade this Sunday. Mary lives on a dairy farm east of McHenry.
