Musin' & Meanderin (Continued from page 1) brought to us, personally, four new friends in the person of Gieim and Giadyce Edwards, Pearl and Shirley Williams. We can test describe them as "real people". A Public Pulse letter in this issue seems worthwhile reading. * We devoted an entire column recently in behalf of retaining the residential character of Waukegan road and another to renewing a prior effort to keep the ., exterior of Landmark school intact. Our words in this area included no thought toward any efforts by individuals or groups of individuals who might have personal gain in mind. Perhaps naively, it has been our impression that any changes were intended in the name of community progress, even though we were in disagreement with the proposed plan. Our Public Pulse contributor has another opinion. Of one thing we are sure - a full year after the Landmark question came into its own-the school's future hinges very closely on the outcome of Waukegan road zoning. Perhaps the link wag closer than we realized in Juty of 1967. TWO KILLED AS YOUTH DRIVES NEW CAR HOME A 17 - year-old Woodstock youth and an 82- year-old woman from that city were killed Monday evening a short time after the young man had purchased a car. The dead were Roger G. Weber and Mrs. Anna Kutscha. Roger's father, George Weber, looked on, unable to help as he watched the fatal crash occur at the intersection of Rt. 176 and Union road, east of Marengo. Weber was following his son's auto on a return trip from Marengo, where the auto was purchased. Young Weber was driving north on Union road and proceeded into the intersection at between 55 and 60 miles an hour, without stopping, according to a statement made by his father. Mrs. Kutscha was a passenger in the back seat of a car driven by her son, Walter. They were the county* stwenty- second and twenty-third fatalities of the year. Board Okays Bids For Work On East Campus (Continued from page 1) cepted. Mrs. Candase Koerper was employed to replace one of them, and Phillip Glatz was offered a contract to teach math and tennis. A tentative budget was presented for study by the board. Adoption will be on Sept. 17. The next meeting will be held Aug. 20, at 7:30 p.m. With three members, Donald Weingart, Dr. Leslie Krieger, and George Freund, absent, the remaining four board members with Dr. Carl Bergstrom, superintendent, and the school architect went into executive session. A representative of an area newspaper questioned the nature of the discussion to be held and was informed it pertained to personnel. - USE THE CLASSIFIEDS Those were mighty sweet sounds that emanated from the city band shell last Thursday night as the stage band presented its weekly concert before an enthusiastic crowd. McHenry "music lovers have demonstrated for many years, by their One attendance, that they appreciate this talented, aggregation. driving through the countryside we often find our way into various subdivisions in the community. Couldn't help but get a lift from the several flags flying proudly in the breeze in the Whispering Hills area. fearer home, at Johnsburg, we were once again impressed with the great talent for woodworking that belongs to Clarence Smith. The detailed work on a couple of windmills would do credit to a skilled, sighted craftsman. Without prior knowledge of his long record of expert worksmanship, one could hardly believe that these many products were the work of one who long ago learned to compensate in other ways for the sight taken from him. K.A.F. City Passes Appropriation For $700,600 (Continued from page 1) soon as restrictions can be relaxed. In line with state law which requires policemen to be hired on a reeular basis, Mayor Doherty appointed Robert Lamz as city marshal. The marshal and deputies will be under the supervision of the Chief of Police. Members of the City Council met with county and township officials Tuesday night to discuss planning a road to connect Crystal Lake road with Illinois Route 31. One plan would connect Bull Valley road with Idyl Dell road. Another location discussed would follow the line between McHenry and Nunda township. Further study will be given to this by county officials.
