Economists also state that this inflationary trend will continue. "The question that keeps coming to mind' asks, what effect does this inflationary trend do to our senior citizens who are surviving on a fixed income? The answer to this question is simple enough. Obviously they are caught in an economic vice, the squeeze of which is becoming more painful. '•Many states have recognized this fact and have provided relief by a conservation reduction in the assessed value of their homes. It must be remembered, in- all fairness that this group have not been a liability to the public school system for several decades, if ever. For example; in our state in certain areas, the ever increasing school tax amounts, to as much as 80 percent of every tax dollar. '•Recently, our state legislature defeated the Home stead Act similar to other states which would have provided a small measure of relief to our senior citizens. But instead, they had the effrontery to vote themselves a fat $3,000 increase in annual salary, the third since 1963. How is it possible that some of our legislators can be so shameless? '•Yours truly, "L. Sbertoli "1020 Somerset Mall ••McHenry" "Editor: "This is to inform the taxpayers what other school districts are getting for their tax money. "Elgin School District U 46 is getting a new school with twenty-two rooms for $837,510. School District 21 in Wheeling is getting a twenty-six room school for $602,207. $300,- 000 will be saved as they are using state money - interest free paid 19 in seventeen years. Bruce Wallace of District 23 checked with the county and state officials about the $10 supply fee. N.E. Hutson, Jfe* gal advisor in the State Public Instruction office, said the fee isillegal. We need classrooms andthey can be had if the taxpayers are told the truth about the matter. 1 don't think that has been done. District 21 will build two more schools, one in Buffalo Grove, twenty-eight rooms, $700,000; the other will cost approximately $400,000. The taxpayers of School District 25 voted down a 40 cent tax rise in education moneys. They had the school books audited and put a stop to an out-of-school activities andhad a savings of over $377,000. Waukegan is going to build twgntv - four, classrooms for $400,000, not ten rooms for $1,000,000 like they would like you to pay for here in McHenry. "Josie. R. Smith "4309 W. On May 23 of this year,: the Senate finally passed Title IV, the firearms control provisions, of the Omnibus Crime Control Bill. Eighteen centuries earlier, the Roman satirist Juvenal mdde a similar observation when he wrote, "A man is respected according to the amount of money he has in his coffers." A person with ready money deserves respect because he evidence# a command over himself and his resources. The person who scrapes from pay day to pay day gets only pity. See how your self-respect grows with the size of your savings account. Just take a little from each pay check ... and watch it develop. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE SAYING?
