Heroism Of CWO Fisher Recognized CWO Edward M.Fisher, husband of the former Joyce Schimke, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Schimke, reside at Wonder Lake, was recently awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for service in Vietnam. CWO Edward Fisher received his Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism. His citation reads in part: "As aircraft commander of a helicopter air ambulance, he flew his aircraft into mountainous terrain at night in conditions of extremely poor visibility due to heavy low clouds and rain to extract seriously wounded casualties of the 173rd Airborne Brigade from enemy fire. "With complete disregard for his own safety, he flew through clouds below the level of surrounding mountain peaks to approach his casualties. "Enemy automatic weapons fire was directed at him, and at one point his aircraft struck trees. "There was no landing zone at the casulaty pick-up site, so Warrant Officer Fisher hovered his aircraft in a fog, using instruments without visual reference as two casualties were slowly raised into his helicopter by hoist. "He then returned with his casualties to the brigade cleartag/* DRIVING 'FOR TRAFFIC by Paul Powell Sttretary of Stati It's 8iiminer ;ind those warm nights and sunny weekends brintf out motorcycles in droves.
