Hie fishing is great as pontoon and motor boats take to the water in search of edible fish. The dead are good since it was only lack of oxygen that caused their death. V 1 The Wonder Lake water - fish rehabilitation program to improve water clarity and fishing started Sept. 12. Included in the massive undertaking to rid scavenger fish from the lake, a principal reason for muddy water, is the treatment of the Nippersink watershed which feeds into the lake. This involved some forty - six ponds in the system whose four branches drain 30,000 acres in a 97-square mile area. This is the first time in 40 years that the entire lake and watershed has been treated for rehabilitation at the same time. The announcement was made jointly on Labor Day by the Master Property Owners association, owners and administrative organization of Wonder Lake, and specialists of the Illinois Department of Conservation. It also was announced that the lake will remain open for fishing after restocking. Officials said that fishing is discouraged during an 18 to 24-month period but will not be prohibited. Restocking will begin about two weeks after the treatment process. Finger ling bass, about 4% inches, will be placed in the lake and creek first. They' 11 grow to about 9 inches in one year. Northern Pike will reach about 17 inches and walleye pike about 8 inches the first year. Restocking will include 80,000 bass finger lings, 200 breeder bass, 1,000,000 northern and 1,- 000,000 walleye fry, plus large quantities of bluegill. The lake will be divided into seven areas. The conservation department will have seven -boats manned by their specialists to inject the chemical into the water. Specialists pointed out that the entire project will be of great interest. Fishermen who want to take game fish can do so with safety, providing the fish are prepared for the skillet before normal deterioration sets in. The chemical treatment is harmless to humans and in no way affects edibility. Camermen also may find many opportunities for picture taking. Boating is -permitted, as well as swimming, during the process, although care should be taken to prevent excessive wakes and traffic that might impede the state boats during the treatment process. •v-.v-V' Hie good must die along with the carp.
