An auto accident victim in early September, Mrs. Donovan was forced to miss a banquet honoring 25 year employees of the A.B. Dick Co. She had a surprise visitor Friday afternoon when Albert B. Dick, chairman of the board of the Niles-based company, visited her room on the third floor at McHenry hospital to wish her a speedy recovery andtopresent her with a wrist watch, a 25 year anniversary gift. Deeply appreciative of Dick's visit, Mrs. Donovan expressed her expectation that she'll be able to return to her job in the supplies manufacturing department soon. terafios a com^sssy banquet honoring long time employees last month. CTEOMUPNETSRTY ICNL UB AREA TEAPOT Little did I expect the reaction I received from last week's column -- It is now quite apparent that the Plaindealer readers do voice their opinions - loud and clear. I have learned my lesson faithfuly readers, never again will I lean more towards one side of an issue. I was not aware I had done this but have since been enlightened. I will now endeavor to straighten out the mistaken conception created last week. The advantages of the proposed annexation to the City of McHenry far outweigh the disadvantages, the main concern being the elimination of the troublesome septic systems. The approximate cost of annexation has been estimated at $750 per 50 foot lot - This figure in comparison with the present cost of replacing or rebuilding existing septic systems plus the cost of the numerous cleanings and pumpings required is not quite the expense it would seem. Most of us at some time have had septic problems, some of us have them constantly. This alone presents a sanitation problem, which in time will have to be acted on whether or not the petition for annexation is passed now or in the future. The petition is up for final approval at the present time, while it is not my policy to mention names in regard to this controversy, the majority of our residents are much in favor of annexation which is self-evident in the petition itself. I feel in all fairness I must say that some of the people opposed to annexation in the past are having second thoughts. Are you? DANGEROUS PIER It has been brought to my attention that the piers at the beach lot at 620 Country club drive are badly in need\of repair. Please - lefs keep oun kids off them until the necessary work can be done. I chicked this out myself and agreed it would be wise to caution th& kids about this and avoid an accident. BLACK AND BLUE PARTY Valerie Frett and Cookie Neubauer threw a surprise party for Val's sister, Kathie, at the roller rink over the weekend to help celebrate Kathie's birthday. Everybody had a great time especially those who had never tried rink-skating before. SLOW DOWN IN COUNTRY CLUB Since the roads were patched and repaired this past summer some of us tend to forget that the speed limit here is 25 mph. Now that the holes are filled it's easy to speed up a little if we're in a hurry, but lefs stop and think if the few minutes saved would matter if we hit a child on the road. Hie kids don't always think - but we should. BIRTHDAY WISHES A very special happy birthday to a very special person, my dad, Ed Karlic. p DON'T FORGET - Most of the calls Pve received this past week have been in regard to the annexation issue, but lefs not forget the other news items that would be of interest - If you ha# a fliture birthday or special occasion why not call me now in case you forget. Q. Hie present Selective Service law specifies that a person may not serve as a member bf a local board for more than 25 years. My friends claims he has served in that capacity since 1941. Why hasrft he been removed? A. He has not been removed because he has not yet served 25 years. The current Selective SQS'viee law dates from June 24, 1948, when the President signed into law the Selective Service Act of 1949 (now cited as Military Selective Service Act of 1967). Osco's CHOICE OF 4 COLORS CONTINENTAL SakThisWMk what's happening. A vague signal is sometimes worse than none at all. Turning on your turn signals when the fellow in front of you is turning isn't such a good idea either. A driver is supposed to indicate what HE is going to do, not what he thinks the other fellow is going to do. Traffic is confused enough without adding to the condition. The law also states very clearly where turn signals are supposed to be used, and this is not one of them. Your brake lights indicate you are slowing down and that is sufficient warning to the driver behind you. Know your Rules of the Road.
