It shore gets my dander up, when I read about the way things is taken for granted, when the subject o* "Foreign Aid", is mentioned. I cain't, fer the life o' me, understand why we should get so interested, in the past few years, about all the other countries in the world, thet we should break the backs o' our folks, here in America, to take care o' the whole wide world. It's fine to share things, and when the poor people & our own country are fed and clothed, then's the time to give the surplus away. Seems to me thet there's more than meets the eye to bein' so over-generous. It gives a body the impression thet someone is profitin' by the sweat o' the workin' man these days. 'Tis right fine to teach the people o' other countries to stand on their own feet, but ya never will accomplish it by givin' to them the things they should be doin' fer themselves. We are a progressive race, we Americans, but the progress has been directed in the wrong course, to my way o' .thinkin'. We, over here, ain't afraid to bend our backs until they hurt, and thet is the reason thet this country has gotton ahead. When the other countr- MCHS Drama Director In Fine Arts Program ; Allen W. Lyndrup, director of drama at McHenry high fechool, has been employed to teach and direct at the Woodstock Opera House for the summer young people's program conducted by the Woodstock Fine Arts association. The summer program, with class instruction in all aspects of the theatre for children from third grade through college age, begins June 17. Registration may be made fiow by stopping in at the Opera IH ouse or calling 338-1663. ; Mr. Lyndrup is currently •working at the Opera House with !the Town Square Players, the ;adult amateur theatre group. He and Donald Barden, business I manager for the Fine Arts association, are co-directing "No, no A Million Times No!", an old fashioned melodrama to be presented June 14-16. This has been Mr. Lyndrup's first year of teaching; He has "directed three plays during this ;year at McHenry, "A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court", "Who Was That Lady II Saw You With?" and the musical, "Barefoot Boy With Cheek". He has also served as director of public relations for the McHenry schools for the 67-68 school year. tyfr. Lyndrup graduated from Wartburg college in Waverly, Iowa, in 1967. He majored in Speech and English and participated in many dramatic and musical activities. Among his roles were Petruchio in "Taming of the Shrew", young Dr. John in "Summer and Smoke", Will in "Oklahoma" and Pom in in "R.U.R.". Mr. Cooking Tips To insure best eating quality, eggs should be cooked with low to moderate heat, for just the right length of time -- never over cooked. This fundamental rule of egg cookery applies whether you are cooking eggs in water, frying pan or oven, says Katharine Neumann, University of Illinois extension adviser. A properly cooked egg has a tender white and a smooth yolk. If cooking temperature is too high or the egg is cooked too long, the protein shrinks and makes the white tough and the yolk mealy. To hard cook eggs in the shell, Mrs. Neumann suggests this procedure: Put the eggs in a pan and cover them completely with cold water. Heat water to simmering and simmer 20 to 25 minutes. Do not let the water boil. Serve the eggs hot or plunge them at once into cold running water and leave until cold. The green discoloration that sometimes appears between the white and the yolk of a hardcooked egg results from a chemical reaction between sulfur in the white and- iron in the yolk. This discoloration is harmless, but unattractive. To help prevent it, cook eggs at a low temperature, avoid overcooking and cool promptly. Lyndrup also directed "A Happy Journey From Trenton To Cambden " and wrote and directed "Forty Or So Ago", a musical review show. He has served as scene designer, stage manager, assistant director and ttieatre critic in other college and community productions. He has two seasons of Summer theatre to his credit, one at Illinois Wesleyan McPherson theatre and the other as resident director of the Student Youth center in Minneapolis, Minn., where he wrote and pro* Nominate New Officers For County 8-40 The May meeting of the 8 & 40 was held in the home of Minnie Meyer of Algonquin, assisted by Sarah Lamb. When the manager, the woman in it, takes off and shares her time with other interest the home suffers. Thet is jest the way it is in this country, but the other countries are jealous o' our prosperity and would like to make us,.over here, feel a sense o' guilt, havin' so much with them with so little. We didn't have so much a few years back. This old lady can remember quite a spell of being hungry, as a good many o* us oldsters can, and only a hundred years ago, a good part o' this country was prairie. So, it has taken a heap o* doin' on the part o* the people, to get where we sire, good or bad, and to my way o' thinkin', it's the kind o' people who make the nation, and not how much help they get.
