E^ch year an officer from the 5th district visits our auxiliary, this year we were honored and pleased to have our president spend a meeting with us. She was accompanied by Eileen Boergerhoff , a member of Villa Park Post 2801. A report on the national convention notified us ofthe awards which were presented to the Department of Illinois. The awards were a plaque for contributions to Radio Free Europe, Americanism, Poppy, Rehabilitation, Publicity and Cancer. A letter received from Ray McGee, Cancer crusade chairman in the McHenry area, extended his appreciation for helping to make the 1968 Crusade successful. The VFW auxiliary fifth district membership kick-off dinner will be held on Nov. 9, at Post 5788 in Lockport. Many thank you notes were received and read, among them from the National Home. The 1969 membership kick off party will be held at the club house on Monday, Oct. 28. You will be receiving a notice in the mail on the time, etc. Come out and pay your dues at the door if you haven't already done so. It will be an enjoyable evening for all. Ila Hogan, National Home chairman, reported that there were no birthdays to remember this month, however she urged all members to use the Christmas seals from the home. The contributions made are the means of support for the home, so if you haven't mailed yours, why not do so now. Mary Kuemmel read a letter she had received from Dr. Burk at Downey hospital in which the auxiliary was thanked for books and paper backs that were donated. Mary, Who is Hospital chairman, was'accompanied by GOOD? Kathy Fuhler and Dora Krocker on her last visit to the hospital. The men were served candy bars, fruit donoughts and coffee. Marge Moreth, Cancer chairman reported that one of our members had received a grant from the insurance. Vi Abbink, Ways and Means chairman, reported cm the past two months fund raising functions. She also reported that a funeral luncheon had been served by Mary Kuemmel, Gerry Breede and herself. Renee Jende, one-year trustee, read the audit report which included the month of September. &• Vi Schuble asked if goody packages could be sent to boys in Vietnam. She had sent one to hgr nephew with the cooperation of the auxiliary. This package contained such items as presweetened cold drink powder, wrapped candies, gum, etc. She theri asked the member# to bring any of the above mentioned items or foil-wrapped peanuts and other types of goodies that would ship well to Vietnam, to the Membership kick off dinner. These will be shipped to sons, grandsons, etc. of the members as we learn of the names and addresses ofthe boys in Vietnam. It was decided to fill bags of useful items to be distributed by our hospital chairman to the patients in our ward at Downey hospital during the month of December. More about this at a later date. It was also decided that the auxiliary would once again sponsor the Cub Scout pack from Holiday Hills. Blanche Macena, then aiddressed the membership, saying that it always is a pleasure to come to McHenry. She said her motto for the year, will be " Let's fill a ranch for Blanche". She also mentioned-that Bill Moreth was goingtobemissedbyalland that a moment of silent prayer was held for him at the seminar which was held in Springfield. Vi Abbink volunteered to be U. S. Savings bond chairman after Blanche had mentioned that it could be done without publicizing names and denominations of bonds purchased. The report will be given once a year. Sunshine Chairman Florence Tussey reported on thank-you cards. Our next regular meeting will be on Monday, Nov. 11. Membership kick-off party on Monday, Oct. 28. See you then. IT PAYS TO SHOP IN McHENRY GUST NELSON Gust Nelson, 63, of 6201 State' Park road, Sfering Grove, died Friday morning, Oct. 18, in McHenry hospital. A native of Sweden, where he was born June 10, 1905, Mr. Nelson had been engaged in the grocery business for many years. For seven years he and his wife operated the Stanton Point store in Ingleside and for the past eight years, the Nelson grocery store on State Park road. The deceased was a member of the Moose Lodge in Fox Lake. Survivors are his wife, Edith; his mother, four brothers and two sisters, all in Sweden. Services were conducted at 1:30 Monday afternoon in All Saints Lutheran church, Spring Grove, with burial in Colemar cemetery.
