©rand ma S& / • ? rtD >..?•,! ;'r Open House $s \ ^ <c , Reflectin' on what I wuz a talkin' about, t' other day, it comes t' mind thet most of our famous leaders, who did the most fer this land tf ours, in establishin' an attitude o* respect fer our country, and fellow mankind, came up the hard way. They weren't the hot-house variety we seem t' be turnin' out today. It takes a little rugged livin't' make strong character,. and the way adults are makiq' it so easy fer the young these days, the product isn't goinV t' be very durable in times & stress. I don't think it takes a war, or time spent in the services, to make men of our youth. A strong father, to back up a strict mother, is all that's really necessary. Parents, with firm ideas o* what is right and what is wrorfjg fer the offspring, and courage t' back up those principles, is all it takes t' putthings on the right road. Seems like the kids 're runnin' the nation and you kin jest bet they will take the upper hand until the jig is up, and someone takes the upper hand and puts them in their place. Believe it 'r not, they're growin' right out o' their britches, and the older folks 're a helpin' them. They' - HAVING AN AFFAIR? Today's younguns seem V hev gotten the idee thet they kin demand things, and if they ain't forthcomin' they kin set up a big ruckus and the olders will give in. Like I heared of a fellow what threatened t' leave home if he didn't get a car t' drive t' school in. Seems like it's out o* style t' use the means o* transportation they wuz born with. They need a car before they're dry behind the ears, and "Datf' isgsposed t' pervide it. I cain't see any harm in kids walkin' f school, until they're about eighteen 'r so. Pervidin' 'em wi' so much jest don't seem t' be the best for 'em, from where I sit, lookin' on. What is badly needed is fer the elders t' git a little oldfashioned, 'n prove that they're stronger than the younguns, arid that ain't been done fer a purty long time, except fer a few who are wiser. The whole thing has gotten out o* hand, and chaos reigns. .. I still think that a lot o* women, who ain't satisfied with the family purse, and go out t' make it fatter, would stay home, live within the income o* the Man of the House, and tend the younguns, teachin* them t' mind and appreciate, this would be a better society.
