Seems thet the people follow along the trend, set up fer them, by those in charge 0* our mutual assets. Today, the credit card is the "THING". Unless one exercises strict disciplinary measures in using thet handy card, a body kin spend hisself right into bankruptcy. This seems t' be the example set before us, by our government, these days. It ain't what we kin well afford, it's what we want, and what we want, we git, seems ter be. Well, it kin be our downfall, too, and we're purty well nigh onter bein* in a lot o* trouble, but we keep right on spendin' and a spendin*. It may not be too late t' correct the whole thing, but in order t* do it, we need t' hev a someone at the head o' our nation, who understands How to moderate our outgo. Seems thet a heap o' money is bein* wasted, every day, and it keeps pn buildin' the burden & our tastes, until a man don't hev time ? sit down, any niore, and take Ms rest. He gits so indoctrinated wi' the thought the he should be makin' a dollar, thet he don't dare t' take it easy. Nothin' will come it, either, exceptin' thet he will find that the years hev slipped by and he hasn't had time f do, much 'cept work. I think life ,wuz meant t' be enjoyed, with enough work, and fun f be a good balance t' the pattern cf livinV Pm a hopin' against hope, that I live t' see the day, again, when there be time fer oldfashioned livirt', when a body kin go f bed at night, feelin* thet there be peace in the land, and in the world, too. Seems a shameful waste o* the great gifts nature, the way things 're a goin' these days. A body cain*t be interested in jest his own way o* life, 'cause the problems 0* the whole world hev come to rest oh the shoulders & the American people, seems t' me. The best way a body kin do, is t' decide who is the best man fer the White House, and hope and pray he will pick men to work for the best principles fer the benefit & mankind.
