City Parishes Participate In Program The Council of Administration of Marian Central Catholic high school, consisting of the pastor and lay representatives from each of the fourteen supporting parishes in McHenry county, voted to study Catholic education in McHenry county on elementary, secondary and Confraternity of Christian Doctrine levels, when they met for their monthly meeting. The fourteen parishes which will participate are St. Margaret Mary, Algonquin; SS. Peter and Paul, Cary; St. Thomas, Crystal Lake; St. John the Baptist, Johnsburg; Sacred Heart, Marengo; St. Mary, McHenry; St. Patrick, McHenry; St. Joseph, Richmond; St. Peter , Spring - Grove; Christ the King, Wonder Lake; and St. Mary, Wbodstocfc, James Hanlon, Ph. D. associate dean of the School of Lio» eral Arts, Marquette university* and Edward DeRoche, Ph. D., also of Marquette university, will conduct the study shortly after the first of the year. The study will appraise the following: Parish financial situations; elementary and secondary programs; personnel and facilities; attitude of Catholic parents, of the community, as expressed through its business and educational leaders. Mr. Hanlon and Mr. DeRoche are experienced iif evaluating both diocesan and parochial educational programs. They have conducted previous studies during the last ten years in a number of dioceses and parishes in Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. Wright, McHenry, was in the operating room of the local hospital undergoing surgery for a gunshot wound. Sheriffs police are investigating the incident that occurred at 11:20 a.m. Monday in which the 66 - year-old Mellinghausen, a retired engineer for the Chicago & North Western Railway, allegedly was injured from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the head, Rep. Hill Killed Friday Holiday Rites Mu i®scue Hunter From Island Two members of Company I of the McHenry Township Fire ^Protection district went to the Assistance of county deputy sheriffs early Thursday morning Vnd rescued a duck hunter stranded on a rocky point off River Terrace drive, at the mouth of the Fox river, near Half, Moon island. Franz Reitmeier of 1706 W. River Terrace drive, McHenry, was broughtsafely toshore after several hours in freezing temperatures after his boat floated away. Reitmeier had gone hunting at daybreak and was setting out decoys when his boat drifted away. As he tried to grab the boat, he stepped into a deep hole in water up to his neck. The hunter managed to throw his jacket onto the small island arid to crawl out of the hole to safety. He continued to fire his gun a number of times before he attracted attention of Michael Whiteside of Riverdale, who turned in the alarm. (Continued on page 7) JOHN B. HILL John B. PRESBYTERIAN-METHODIST The joint Thanksgiving day services of Faith Presbyterian church, and the First United Methodist church, McHenry, will be held at the latter church 3717 West Main street, at 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28. The Rev. John 0o Mclntyre, pastor of the Faith Presbyterian church will bring the Thanksgiving day message, "The Blessing Confirmed". The Scripture Lessons are Deuteronomy 8;lJ-20 and Luke 17:11-18, The combined choirs of the two churches will provide special music under the direction of William Toalson. Miss Haynes graduated last June 8 with a B.S. degree in Marketing from Northern Illinois university, DeKalb. Shortly afterward, she became one of eight students from N.I.U. to participate as an AIESEC trainee in Europe. This is the Association for International Exchange Students in economics and commerce. She worked in Goteborg, Sweden, for two months in the product development phases of a leading firm. After completion of her traineeship, She travelled in Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, England and Ireland. With little more than twentyfive days until Christmas, everyone is reminded to get gifts and cards ready for mailing. Domestic gift parcels should be mailed before Dec. 2 if they are destined for distant states and not later than Dec. 14 if they are for local area. Greeting cards for distant states should be mailed not later than Dec. 11 and those for local delivery not later than Dec. 16. THE PLAINDEALER STAFF cf. *1SP RESURRECTION SHRINE Parishioners of St. Mary's church have been agreeably surprised with the magnificence of the Resurrection Shrine which was erected in early August in the grass high marker section of their cemetery. This section was opened a year ago and it will provide for 1,200 burials.
