msMMMmsM . , 4 , 1968'- PLAIN DEALER - PG. 5 . ' » 1 BUILDING CONSIDERATION SET FOR FEBRUARY* y> (Continued from page'll ', tects; again unanimously. 1 During; the November meetingS, the board received and c<^ftfered both an enrollment projection and a survey of nseds of thfc school prepared by the teachef? iuid superintendent. Predictions of enrollment growth shows that Harrison school can expect 25 percent more children in 1973 as it has presently. Enrollment for June, 1968, was 518; November, 1968, is 541; June, 1970, 553; June, 1971, 577; June, 1972, 608; and June, 1973, 621. Joseph Sullivan, a board member, felt that' these figures were conservative as did all of the members. With a need for at least three additional classrooms by September, 1969, and two more by September, 1970, the board was advised by the superintendent that should new classrooms not be made available by September of 1970, double sessions for most grades might be necessary in order to maintain the present instructional program. This, of course, would not provide for strengthening the present program. INDICATE NEEDS In a survey conducted by the stqwrintendent, teachers were asked to indicate the needs of the school as they saw them. These needs seemed to condense down into four broad areas: One, more classrooms; Two, better use of present areas of instruction; Three, more individualization of instruction; and Four, addition of art to the school program. The board reacted to this survey by directing the stq>erintendent to contact the architect and advise him to consider these items in planning for the building addition. The club has members from Richmond, Woodstock, Wonder Lake and many nearby subdivisions, as well as McHenry. WW Adviser Desk HEALTH LAWS The .University of Illinois has an excellent bulletin on "Illinois Laws Affecting Human and Animal Health." Portions of the bulletin, may' be only of casual interest to the average person, but should be most valuable as a reference book for veterinarians, doctors, nurses and others who work with state, county or local agencies with a more direct interest in what these laws require. If you don't have a copy, you may request one from the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois 61801. Or, if you prefer send your requests to the county extension office, Box 431, and we'll forward them to Urbana. Stevens, Newtown Square, Pa.: I remember when I was a child and lived on a farm at the top of a long hill where we would sled in the winter snow. We would coast nearly a mile. In the summer we enjoyed swimming in the creek which ran close by. We had big parties on Halloween, Christmas and New Year's and picnics in the summer -- with homemade ice cream. Our house still stands. It had 32 rooms, so we had lots of room for our parties. Many years ago this house was an underground railroad and in r'thOtSi&lTwas a false well which y * ""led-into "a tunnel. The tunnel led into the barn. Many slaves escaped through the house to -• the barn or vice versa. The tunnel and well are still there and the old home is now an apartment house. I remember it from the days when all was "country."Today the country has turned into a town. Time marches on.
