The Cullom-Knoll has sponsored this" eagerly awaited event each year. EX-GI SUCCUMBS IN HINES Because of his premature white hair, Wilfred Gumm, 5216 W. West Lane, early in life, earned the title of "Whitey" and that is what he was affectionately called. The soft spoken, well mannered man died of terminal illness in Hines* Veterans hospital at midnight last Saturday. He had been confined since August of this year. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, two brothers, Harry M„ Virginia Beach, Va., and Huger, Norfolk, Va. Also two sisters, Mrs. Altha G. Bryan, and Mrs. Dean (Eunice) Ervin, both of Portsmouth. Survivors who wilf not be listed in obituaries, but very meaningful to Whitby are his parakeet, Tweetie, and his beloved canine companion, Lucky, who shareicT a painful auto accident with him, some time ago. He was preceded in death by-' his mother and father, Annie C. and Henry M. Gumm. LADIES HOLD ANNUAL PARTY IN LILY LAKE A very festive parly in honor of the coming Yule season was held at the Club Lilymoor, last week by members of the Ladies of the Lake. Present were thirty-eight officers, members and guests, including honorary member, Frank Kurth. His dedication to the ladies' efforts have certainly earned him the title and his presence was acknowledged with glee by the women. A delicious buffet dinner was prepared by the establishment and thoroughly enjoyed. Following the banquet dinner, the gals played "rebbor ognib" with one lovely Christmas decand this reporter. Mrs. Adele Fusciani, whohas moved from the community, was; welcomed home royally for a brief visit. Other visitors were Mary- Wood. Ruth Surz (former member) charter member, Theresa Schultz, Karen McKim Ackerman and Ruth Eromondi. In spite of the inclement weather, the women had a most merry time, celebrating a very merry season. Credit for the success of the party niust go to president Carrie Kurth, secretary Lois Parenti, and Mrs. Marie McKim. DONATIONS ACCEPTED BY RESCUE SQUAD Donations for the newly formed McCullom Lake rescue squad are still being accepted andmay be delivered to the organization at 5121 W. Fountain Lane. The rescue squad is on display at that address and may be viewed by residents. PIONEER CENTER OFFERED CHRISTMAS ITEMS Stocking stuffers and tree trimmings were offered by the- Pioneer Center for the Exceptional until 4:30 p.m. yesterday. The items were hand made and offered for prices ranging from twenty five cents to $2.50. FOREST TRIP PLANNED FOR COUNTY 4-HERS All McHenry County 4-H members are invited on a trip next Saturday, Dec. 21, to the Sinnissippi Forest just outside of Oregon. Departure time is 8 a.m. from the Farm Bureau building in Woodstock and arrival back home is set for 5 p.m. Transportation will be by bus or car. There is no charge for the trip unless buses are provided. The Sinnissippi Forest is a n|rfss producer of Christinas trees. By Saturday this year's Christmas tree harvest will have been completed. Therefore this offers a good opportunityto see how trees were selected for Cutting throughout the forest. The 4-H members will be given a tour and shown why certain trees are selected for cutting over others, how conservation principles are applied and methods used in cutting and harvesting trees. Any McHenry county 4-H member is entitled to go on this trip. For further information call David Smith at 338-3737.
