MCCULLOM LAKE NEWS EVE LEVESQIJE CANDIDATES FILE FIRST SLATE FOR VILLAGE OFFICES The first slate of candidates for tjie village election to be held in April was filed with clerk Carol Bateman at 10:fi5 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 1. George Luto heads the ticket as village president, on the People's Party. Mrs. Jean Garner is named for position of village clerk. Ray Lary and James Wyman seeh posts as four year trustees and Tom Damiano has filed for the two year post of trustee. . Another slate of candidates is being prepared and petitions circulated. Last day for filing is Monday, Feb. 10. It is a healthy sign for the people of the village that there will be a contest and residents will have a choice as to who will make the decisions on the local level for the next four years. The qualifications of the various people seeking office will be pi^blished so that every qualified voter can make intelligent choices. AN EMERGENCY EXISTS IN CULLOM-KNOLL Three trustee posts are open In the Cullom-Knoll Associa- 385-4141 tion and the office of secretary also needs filling. The vacancies were discussed at the last meeting of the club, held Sunday, Feb. 2, at 3 p.m. in the beachhouse. Ray Lary reported that the rescue squad has collected $323* to date. There is a piece of equipment in Johnsburg which the group wishes to acquire. Investigation will be made. He also reported on the condition of the lake which is deteriorating, according to the Illinois Conservation Department. New custodians of the beachhouse are Mr. and Mrs. Penny. * The next meeting will be held Sunday, March 2, at 3 p.m. in the beachhouse. % FISH DERBY SHELTER ERECTED SATURDAY Male volunteers are needed to form the building crew for the fish derby shelter which will be erected this Saturday morning at 9 a.m. Members of derby chairman A1 Kanak's committee are asked to be at the beach. Lumber andtools will be supplied. FATHER COUNSELS NEWLYWEDS Dave Hansen served as a very fitting toastmaster at the reception given for his lovely daughter, Janet, and her new husband, Dan Jamieson, last Saturday J The two young people exchanged vows at St. John the Baptist Catholic church at 3 p.m. Details appear elsewhere in- the Plaindealer. Lillian and Dave Hansen are the parents of the new bride and Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Jamieson, McHenry, are the goom's parents. Dave's toast to the two young people was peppered with witticisms and contained this fitting advice. "Always have God at the head of your house. Always remember to wear the pride of your country for all to see. Always remember there are others in this house. Remember all these things and that if you are ever in need of help--signed two moms and two dads." Janet was gifted with a beautiful cross by her groom. Jill Hansen, who made an adorable little flower girl, became tuckered out and was taken home by a friend and put to bed so the Hansens could enjoy their daughter's festivities. It was a memorable wedding and one which wijl be treasured by Janet and Dan. Janet was one of the lovliest of young brides and thrilled every one with her composure and aplomb. REPORT OF HOSPITAL PATIENTS u Theresa Schultz is making great strides in her battle to return to good health. She was transferred back to McHenry hospital from St. Therese's, Waukegan, last Friday. She has graduated to $ wheel chair and a walker. Her new "hair dc/' is the latest in easy care. Cards may be sent to Room 223. Mrs. Monica Morris was released from McHenry hospital last weekend. Monica has had her share of medical problems, but never hesitated to visit with others who were confined and offered words of encouragement. ORCHID OCCASIONS Stephen Cable will be 9 and Shelley Yates turns 3 tomorrow, Feb. 8. Leslie Walter will have seven candles on her cake, Darlene Palis will be 20 and anniversary greetings to Marge and Ole Olsen, Feb. 9. Terri Wilson turns 12, Feb. 10. Best wishes to all. Hansen of 1813 Fernwood lane, McHenry, was promoted to his present rank while' serving with the First Amphibian Tractor battalion, Third Marine division in South Vietnam. ^ His promotion was based oty time in service and rank, military appearance, and his knowledge of selected military subjects. J As part of the division's ne1^ mobile posture, his battalioi^ has been supporting the division's combat operations in the northernmost tactical zone of the republic. ' TEACHER WELFARE AND ETHICS PANEL: . Merle Nelson, Cary elementary; Marie Patton, Crystal Lake elementary; Eligio Marcheschi, Cary elementary; and Don Holtzee, Marengo elementary. As a result of the interest shown at the local level, Dave Boger, superintendent at Hawthorn School and president of the McHenry section of the Illinois Education association, arranged for the above panel for the meeting of the governing board held recently at Northwood school, Woodstock. The board consists of local association presidents and officers, local association committee chairman, and McHenry section officers. Among items on the agenda of the McHenry section, IEA, governing board was included short committee reports by the following: Citizenship, William Larson, Northwood; Membership and Finance, Robert Bender, Northwood; Legislation, Henry Kenyon, McHenry Junior high; Teacher Education and Professional Standards (TE PS), Mrs. Carrie Hage, Harvard. Highlights of the annual I.E.A. convention held in Chicago were given by DuWayne Sheldon, Cary-Grove. Donald Seat on, member of the Northeastern division board of the I.E.A., from McHenry, spoke on C.O.P.E. (Committee on Pension Education). Some alternate ways of financing the Teachers Pension fund were discussed. The next governing board meeting will be held at Northwood school on St. Patrick's Day. Nomination and election of section officers will take place. Bill Schutte, Greenwood, is chairman of the nominating committee as section president- elect.
