PG. 4 - PLA NDEALER - WED. FEB. 19, 1969 ords were surveyed and recommended a system now being introduced through a seminar held for doctors. Also observed was the kitchen and food service. * -- They went into some of the hospital rooms and visited with the patients. Hanson summarized the visit by saying it was both gratifying and educational. " We are assured of our fine hospital and learned new ideas to make it even better. It enables us to keep ahead of developments in health care with diligence by our medical staff and all others who serve patients here." * The official certificate is on display in the lobby of Memorial hospital. Look for it the. next occasion you have to come in--it's like "sterling on silver", says the Joint commission. ^Looking over Certificate of Accreditation awarded Memorial Hospital for McHenry County are ;<from left) Dr. V.B. Petralia, chief of medical staff; Kenneth Schuh, board president; and Bert Hanson, administrator. Schuh announced three-year accreditation granted by the Joint Commission on Accreditation this week. * DON PEASLEY PHOTO ACCREDITATION IS AWARDED TO , 'AREA HOSPITAL I; Careful, day-long inspection •I jof everything from records and ood service to patient rooms _ nd office procedure has resulted in a strong vote of confidence fo«r Memorial Hospital jlor McHenry County. Three-year accreditation-- I longest period granted by the tjloint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals--has been J granted following inspection by team of three doctors, Ken- £tieth Schuh, president of the «pounty-wide hospital, announced this week. 2; "The certificate is the public's protection against hit-or- ?miss standards in the hospital "they depend on," explained Schuh. "It is evidence that medical and hospital people are on guard to assure the public that the hospital is well-organized, well-equipped and well-staffed." News of the inspection team report came from Dr. John Porterfield, director of the Joint commission, Chicago. In his letter to the board of direcr tors, he complimented the board and staff on its "constant effort to improve the . quality of patient care." The Certificate of Accreditation has significant stature. Comprising the Joint commission are four nationally-known groups: American College of Physicians, American College of Surgeons, American Hospital association and American Medical association. "We participate in this program voluntarily," said Schuh. "We are working conscientiously to improve the quality of patient care, and these doctors visiting our hospital offer many sound suggestions. They tell us where we excel; they tell us where we need to improve. They offer ideas based on experience learned in visiting other hospitals." Accreditation assures the public of these features: A safe building, competent medical staff, adequate hospital personnel, and top administration. In visiting Memorial hospital, the team of doctors talked with various people. They met with Dr. H.A. Stahlecker, Jr., chief-of-staff and other staff physicians, and with Bert Hanson, administrator. They talked with Mr. Georgina Andelfinger, R.N., director of nurses, and members of the nursing staff, and reviewed their procedures. Medical rec- • ANTI-CRIME HEAD Gov. Richard B. If you insist on being an object lesson to your children, make sure it is an example, not a warning. Everybody is sure that civilization reached its peak during HIS childhood--and all have been wrong, so far. News About Our Servicemen jmi>fyvwiTi""** * * "To Whom It May Concern; "In November, '68 I returned from a 12-month tour in the Republic of South Vietnam. While I was on leave, I resided in the McHenry area. Everywhere I went, there were always a couple of those authorities oh the Vietnam conflict. "Generally this "authority" was between 18 and 20, had never been in the service, and used various narcotics of sorts. "I spent just about my entire tour overseas, grunting (on the front line) with the 101st Airborne division (airmobile) as a demolitions man. So as you can guess, Pm no Saigon Warrior who sat behind a typewriter. * "As I was saying, while I was on leave I encountered quite a bit of very strong opposition from those who don't know about it, to the. war in Nam. "It saddens me to think the American youth is taking such a position when people's lives and freedom are at stake. "Gook bullets aren't killing the Americans as much as Americans are. Kids say, 'The Communists are way over there, and we're over here. How can they possible harm us?* "Pll tell you how. If you take one country at a time, it won't be too much to miss. What it will break down to is this: Cut off the fingers and the hand will become ineffective. "Then too, the Communists aren't all over there. Some ( if not many) are right next to you. " My entire tour in Vietnam was spent in constant fear -- not for myself so much. I feared that one day I would come home in America and find my wife raped to death and my kids shot. ft NOBODY BEATS J 'A AI'S DEALS § '69 BUICK (Full Size Auto) LeSabre - 4 dr. "I've seen this sort of thing in Nam, and it's not a very pleasant thing. Take my word for it. "What your men need most now is players and support from their fellow countrymen. " You have a very bad country, but, as of yet, if s the only one in which a'person can say, write, think and do whatever he wants as lofig as It doesn't harm anyone else. I ! " We Americans have a good thing goin&for us. Don't throw it away now. '•Too much American blood lies on European soil, islands and, in general, throughout the world. Those men die for something they believe in. Don't let them have died in vain. " I was wounded in Nam. IT wasn't bad at all. But if need be ril die for my country, or my family. But I go as I should. No matter where in the world (in the service Of my country) I am, Til die as a paratrooper should, facing the adversary. •«I want peace, yes, but not at the price of freedom and slavery. "Sincerely, "Sp/5 Frank G. Patellar^' The serviceman sent along a poem, "The Costly Price," which was written by members of his 101st Airborne division in Vietnam. Because we have received so many of these poems, it has been impossible to print them in their entirety. Any poem written by a McHenry serviceman, however, will be given special considerations. The poem sent by Sp/5 Patellaro closed with these words: "The true price we pay for the preservation of freedom will never be known until Americans lose that gift of freedom."
