MARCH 19, 1969 HOLIDAY HILLS NEWS INEZ YOUNG 885-4672 CITIZENS GROUP OFFERS PROPOSAL TO FIX ROADS In the near future, every resident of Holiday Hills will be visited by a group of interested citizens who have come up with a proposal to solve our road problems. Their plan is to seal coat most of the main roads in the subdivision, the school bus route in particular. When these people call on you, please invite them in and listen to their proposal., The road improvement program , wili solve a problem that has plagued us for many years. One of the major property owners has already made a commitment of $1,000 toward the ultimate goal. With cooperation, we can all enjoy driving into and through our subdivision. Watch for someone to call on you to give you complete details and answer your questions. BROWNIE INVESTITURE Tuesday, March 11, the Brownies of Troop 409 gathered at the Kasprzyk home to invest nine of its members. The troop, under the leadership of Connie Catanzaro and Dee Wegener, opened their meeting with the color guard presenting the colors and leading those present in the pledge of allegiance. Troop leader, Connie Catanzaro called the Brownies and their mothers, or fathers and one brother forward and presented the pin to the parent to be pinned on the Brownie. The following girls were invested: Kathy Hallberg, Sandra Janke, Diane Boettcher, Kelly Wegener, Laura ,Kathan, Trina Mullins, Desiree Frantz, Gail Schroeder and Kim Walters. Second year Brownies in the Troop are: Linda Janik, Candy Gibbs, Cindy Hacek, GiGi Smith and Wendy Young. Forming a Brownie circle the girls entertained their guests with some of the action songs they often sing at their meetings. Refreshments were served by the girls. "H.H.P.O.A. Sunday, March 30 is Cleanup Day. If you have any items you would like to have picked up and discarded, please have* them at the side of the road ready for pick up. Route 120 McHenry, has successfully completed the training program for radio-tv broadcasting at the Houston, Texas, campus of career academy, world's largest bropdcast schooling system and received a certificate at graduation ceremonies held recently. Under the supervision of leading broadcasters, Mr. Cooper studied all phases of radio-tv broadcasting in classroom studios which simulated actual "on-the-air" conditions. Special report from Commonwealth Edison company lists five check-points you should make before flying kites. T minus 5 and counting: Use only ordinary kite string. Never use wire or metallic cord as a substitute. T minus 4: Never attach metal or tinsel to any part of the kite. T minus 3: Fly kites in open areas away from overhead wires, traffic andtrees. HARNESS RACING PURSES The 1969 Illinois State Fair, Aug. 8-17, will offer purses totalling more than $535,000 in its harness racing program. Racing money and trophies are from the Agricultural Premium Fund, the Fund for Illinois Sired Colts and starting fees paid by owners. A levy on wagering on pari-mutuel racing in Illinois produces the funds. Highlight of the seven-day race program is the Illinois State Fair Colt Stake races for two and three-year-old trotters and pacers. FOR FAST RESULTS C/LL 385 -0170 NEW VEHICLE CODE Legislation establishing a new "Illinois Vehicle Code" to bring the format of this state's law into conformity with the federal Uniform Vehicle Code was passed, 139 to 0, by the House of Representatives last week. The 500-page bill, including index, makes no substantive changes in the present law and is based completly upon present Illinois law, but it combines into one act the provisions of 15 acts now in Chapter 95% of the Illinois statute relating to vehicles. Principal sponsor is Representative Peter Pappas of Rock Island. The measure completes legislative directives of resolutions passed by the 1965 and 1967 sessions of the General Assembly calling for study and revision of laws in this area. It would become effective January 1. 1970. SPRING GROVE MAN IN PUBLIC BAND CONCERT The fifty-four member university band at Illinois State university will present a free public concert at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, March 20, in Capen auditorium on the ESU campus. The university band was organized during the 1967-68academic year to become KlPs newest concert-performing band. Kenneth T. Kistner is the director. Concert selections will include "Suite for Band" by Robert Pearson; "Russian Choraland Overture," by Merle Isaac; "A Tribute toSousa," by Maurice Whitney; "How the West Was Won," by Hawkins; and compositions by Gardner, Hunegerger, Erickson, Bennett, Persichetti and Grundman.
