Just a few words about those on the sick list; Mary Ann Wegener underwent surgery at Presbyterian-St. Luke's hospital in Chicago last Friday, and is doing very well, according to Jim. The scholarship program is sponsored by Northern Illinois Gas company. The competition or bake-off will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the contestants baking their perfect cherry pies at Martinetti's in Crystal Lake. Besides culinary abilities, they will be quizzed for 20 minutes on basic home economics principles. . At stake in ,the bakeoff is the opportunity to advance to the final round of the program scheduled for April. Awards are scholarships of $1,000 or $300 on the senior level of the program and monetary awards of $200 or $100 for junior level contestants. At the division contest, two seniors and a junior will be selected to advance to the final bake-off. Four professional homet economists will judge the northwest division competition. They are Mrs. Jill Brenner, home economics consultant; Mrs. Icilda Flournory, assistant professor of dietetics, nutrition and food science, Northern Illinois university; Mrs. Avis Pohl, home economics consultant; and Mrs. Jean Shaw, family" education, Elgin Young Women's Christian association.
