Unknown to most citizens, coyotes inhabit much of Illinois and its bordering states. In many areas they breed with wild dogs and produce a hybrid. These hybrids, and coyotes too, quite often erroneously are called "wolves." The hybrids are called coy-dogs. Originally a prairie animal, the coyote appears to be moving eastward as the solid forests are reduced. Anyone seeing "wolflike" wild animals in his area or who knows where they exist is asked to notify Dr. John R. Paul, curator of zoology at the museum in Springfield. Although these animals exist virtually everywhere in Illinois, so far most of the sightings have been made south of a line extending from Quincy to Springfield to Champaign. Father John Strazalka, Pastor Windows of the Eyes have been called the windows of the soul. Clarity, expression and size--all of these are supposed to reveal character. A child's eyes seem innocent. But small, closely-placed eyes' may also indicate deception. Some even say that you can tell a criminal by his eyes. Calling it nonsense, even scientists find it hard to dispel the old wives' tales that have persisted for centuries. Eyes, in a certain sense, can be the windows of the soul-- precious windows through which you look at life. Don't judge another man by his eyes. Look instead through eyes of understanding and compassion, for in God's sight we are all equal. If your inner vision has been a bit faulty lately, why not start going to church next Sunday?
