He received a phone call at ten o'clock the night before from Jucty Smith ( a Cub fan) to tell him about that great 19-0 victory the Cubs rolled up against San Diego. According to our informer, Judy added, "And you can tell Earl Walsh to put that in his pipe and smoke it". Now, that's the kind of fan we like. A 19-0 game is hard to smoke, but if she had said George Stock, a real Old Faithful in the postal department for many years, passed away this week. Our memory of George goes back to our early years when it was a real treat to go down to the depot to watch the evening train roll in from Chicago. It seemed that George was a real important part of the railway and postal system that kept the mail going through. Maybe there was only one sack of mail coming in, but it was handled with care. All games this year will be played at the beautiful V.F.W. grounds at the new Babe Ruth field which was finished by the help of the various organizations plus-the help of all the men and boys in the league. The league will noW go under its new name being the McHenry.. Youth League. The officers this year are as follows: President, Joe Prazak; Vice-president, Frank Camasta; Sec'y - Treas., Ernie Useman; and Player Agent, Larry De Jay. The sponsors of the teams this year are as follows: Tigers - Fury Mtrs, Mgr. L. De Jay; Sox - McHenry State Bank, Mgr. J. Prazak; Cards - Carey Elec., Mgr. J. Wickenkamp; Giants - Tony an Const., H. Tiggeman and A. Steinsdoerfer; Braves - Wm Bolger, McHenry Sand & Gravel: Mets - Payton Chev., Mgrs. J. Farley and E. Useman; Cubs - Mc- Cullom Lake - Stacknick Mgr. We of the league want our sponsors to know that we apprecate what they are doing, as without them we would be unable to do for and help the boys during the baseball season. The season this year will start on June 8 at 1 p.m. All games this year will be officiated by the Northern Illinois Umpire Association. We will try to get the schedule and the roster of the teams published within the next week. Once again I ask that wl\en the season starts that we all get out there and give our boys some support as they are of the age where they can use it. Watch for our column in the next week. Oh, yes, the games during the week will start at 6 p.m. sharp. Please encourage your boy to be on time for all games as of now we do have a waiting list. But, Judy, and all you Cub fans, keep heart. Remember -- we want your Cubs to win -- so we can play you in the World Series. Wouldn't that be fun! Petie Jiad another little gem for us. He visited Ben Frett in* Florida last winter, and saw a flock of drunken robins. Ben has some kind of a berry tree that the robins cleared slick as a whistle. Then they took a drink of water and weaved all over the place -- stoned, crocked, -plastered or you name it. Must ask Ben if Pete ate any of those berries. Looking over the list of high school golfers in the district tournament played here last week, we see the name of Bob Malpede on the winning Carmel team. Streaks Beat Warriors In District Tourney, 4-2 ion Donnelly, golfing with her, watched very closely and proceeded to do likewise on No. 8. by Bert Hagemann The third time did not prove a charm for the Warriors as they lost in the first round of state district play at Woodstock this past Tuesday by the score of 4-2. The Warriors had beaten the Streaks twice prior to this occasion in conference play, and pitcher Tom Janik had been the winning hurler in both contests against his opponent, McCauley. However, the Streaks turned the tables on McHenry, knocking Janik out in a three run third inning, and holding tenaciously to a lead against repeated Warrior flurries in the last two innings. McHenry broke on top with a pair of. runs in the second inning on Mike Fremiti's two run single, but the Streaks came back with a single run in the third, and then opened their big fourth with two singles, an error at the plate, and two more singles, both of which brought in runs. Steve Salter entered then and once again squelched the rally, but it was too little too late for McHenry as our last inning rally fell short with two men dying in scoring position. Our hitting was nothing to brag about as McCauley continually hit the Warrior batsmen on the fists, causing numerous popups and easy outs. Having two men thrown out at the plate also hurt our scoring chances, and as this is printed, we will have one more contest for the season, that a revenge battle against Dundee and their ace lefty, Bolier, at McCracken field on Friday.
