Promises have been made that it will be completed in time for Memorial i*y services. The Ladies of the Lake, represented by their President Carrie Kurth, presented a check for $100 to Cullom-Knoll president George Luto to be put toward this worthwhile project. Thanks to these two wonderful groups , it is possible we'll have one of the nicest beaches in the area. ,--. «#» : FINAL LITTLE LEAGUE TIEGBTRATION June 1 is the last chance for boys to register for baseball. VILLAGE PRESIDENT ATTENDS MEETING On Wednesday, May 14, our President George Luto met with the McHenry County Mayors association at the McHenry city hall, with McHenry Mayor Don Doherty as host. They had a very interesting meeting on law enforcement. George had the honor of being picked, along with two others, to be on the committee to nominate new officers of this association. After the meeting adjourned sandwiches and coffee was served by Mrs. Doherty. MEMORIAL DAY SERVICES Memorial Bay services are set for 11 a.m., May 30 at the beach. Chairman Ray Lary is still asking that anyone with sons or daughters in service to please contact him. He has received only two phone calls in response to our plea for . names of servicemen. We would like to be able to pay them all due respect on Memorial Day, but we can't if we don't know who they are. If you know of any of our local boys or girls in any branch of the Armed Forces please contact Ray Lary at 385-7236, or this reporter at 385-0941. POINTS OF HISTORICAL * INTEREST REVISITED Jimmy Tallurico, grandson of Mary Tallurico, had a very interesting trip recently. Along with seventy classmatesandten ehaperones from Our Lady of Mercy school, he visited such historical places as Washington, D.C., Williamsburg, and points of interest in Vermont and Virginia. They left by plane from Chicago on Friday and returned Monday. SURPRISE! SURPRISE! When my husband, Gary, and friend, Dick Hester, returned home from town Saturday, it was to a chorus of "Surprise", in honor of Gary's birthday. Somehow I had managed to keep the cake and otheY refreshments well hidden, and he was completely surprised. Friends in attendance were Len and Gerry lensen, Loren and Dee Gobel, Roger and Vera Dunham, Dick and Linda Hester, Don and Toni Pearson, and Dick Moore. The citizens decided to have one week when the people would help pick up the trash. They worked hard for the whole seven days and mide the town look trashfree. The citizens of McHenry have made the town a cleaner place in which to live. How You Can Help L -- Pick up all trash you see on the roads. 2. -- Remind your neighbors of these facts. 3. -- Keep your own yard clean and neat of garbage. 4. -- When you're in a car br truck keep your garbage in a litterbag, not on roads. 5. -- Don't throw things in the rivers or streams* " Kevin Wynveen POEM It would be nice To work like mice And clean McHenry so; To fix the bumps With all the humps So streets are not so low. To have some parks For birds like larks To move their families in; With lots of cans For litter fans So please put on a grin! To have a pool, Keep nice and cool On summer days so hot; And have a smash Without the trash While enjoying our town spot. So now let's think before you throw, In spite of what we all do know, And keep McHenry clean and bright All morning, afternoon and night.
