FIRE COMPANIES EXTINGUISH TWO MINOR BLAZES Two minor fires on Thursday, July 2, and Saturday, July 5, were handled by McHenry fire companies one and two. Purpose of the program is to assist aspiring nurses in gain­ ing their education. Three have completed the program launch­ ed earlier and Sue Jones, Mc­ Henry, is in training at Rock- ford now. Criteria choosing applicants included financial need, grade rating, and qualifications to serve in the profession of nurs­ ing. The scholarship for the three- year program can total up to $760, with the student repay­ ing one-half the scholarship to­ tal of $400 within a year af­ ter graduation to help provide funds for future aspirants. A total of up to $360 is given the student for personal expense and none of this is repaid. Sue Rich, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Rich, is a 4-H msmber. She is working as a nurse's aide now at the Har­ vard Community Memorial hos­ pital. She has been accepted at the I.J. Goldberg School of Nursing, Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center, Chicago. Bonita, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Kenneth Benson, is a 1969 Marengo high school graduate and also has a 4-H background. She is working as a nurse's aide at Memorial Hospital for McHenry County at Woodstock. She will attend Elgin Commun­ ity College and take a course which will enable her to be­ come a registered nurse and also have an associate degree in nursing. "The HIA is proud to help these young women," saidLeid- berg. " We are glad we will be able to provide someone with experience to care for patients at a hospital which probably wilkbe- one of our own here in the county."
