I DONALD STILL QUERIED ABOUT BOND INTEREST Donald Still, McHenry county chairman for U;S. Savings f Bonds, has been queried about * the Treasury request to Con- gross to remove the interest rate ceiling on Savings Bonds and other government securi ties. According to Mr. Still, "If the legislative request is ap proved, the interest rate on Series E and H Savings Bonds will be raised from the current 4.25 per cent to 5 per cent, if held to maturity. The in crease would be retroactive to June 1, 1969, All outstanding E and H Bonds would also ben efit form the new 5 per cent rate, beginning with the first semiannual interest period which starts on or after June 1." Series E Bonds will have their maturity period reduced from 7 years to 5 years, 10 months. H Bond maturity will remain at 10 years. Both E and H Bonds would enjoy an auto matic , extension period. The present 5 per cent rate on Freedom Shares would continue unchanged until they are re moved from sale 6 months af ter the proposed legislation be comes lavy. Authority to ex tend freedom Shares "at ma turity is included in the Trea sury's request. ft Mr. Still said that the Trea sury's proposal "should give new impetus to the Savings Bonds. PLAINDEALER PHOTO WHISPERING OAKS GERTRUDE DISNEY AREA RESIDENTS CONCERNED ABOUT FLOODED SPOTS Many of the residents of Whispering Oaks are perturbed and aggravated about the in tolerable flooding conditions here after every rain storm. It seems that certain spots arc es pecially hard hit and our so called nature walks are no more than miniature Grand Canyons that grow deeper after every storm. However, we are pleased with the weeding operation that has restored our formal gardens to their original beauty. Don Kennard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Braidwood, 1118 Cumber land, and their children, Tim othy , Kari, and Thomas, all had a stay at their grandpar ents' home. Kari stayed all week. So pleasant are the grand parents that Timothy brought his girl friend along. She is Carol Becker of Glen Ellyn. He wanted to show her how nice adult living could be in Whis pering Oaks. Our 2 bicyclists, Reva Davis and Grace Wagner, ride an hour each evening and are hoping for a new one to join them, Mrs. Stanlik of Sussex. Mrs. Lucille Ahrens, 4612 Sussex was taken to the hos pital by ambulance after fall ing in her home, she is un dergoing x-rays for a possible cracked bone. Mr. and Mrs. Nick Kauth, Sussex, took Mr. and Mrs. Dis ney for a nice long ride to vis it the farm where Mr. Kauth was born, near Elbourn, 111. The present owner invited us to come in and see the changes that were made since the good old days. Quite a few mem ories were in Mr. Kauth's mind as he went through the place. It was a lovely farm. There were so many things the lady of the house had canned. It all looked so good. Mr. and Mrs. Art' Kuehn, 4709 Cumberland Circle, had Art's mother, Mrs. Natalie Kuehn, visiting them. They also had two uninvited guests, one rabbit who ate the tops of their beets, and one woodpecker who thinks their house is a tree. The Quanstrums on Sussex Drive have had a visitor for five weeks, Mrs. Ethel Doss from New Jersey, Mrs. Quan- strum's cousin.
