\ f r \ Blast-Off Ft>r Holiday Hospitality October 1 Blast off for Holiday Hos­ pitality Day is Wednesday, Oct 1. Plans were launched for the annual fall benefit of the Woman's auxiliary of Memor­ ial Hospital for McHenry Coun­ ty at the July board meeting at the home of Mrs. Eugene O'Brien. Chairman of the event, Mrs. Anthony Aingrone, and co- chairman, Mrs. Dan Cameron, announced the opening of four Woodstock area homes. The home of the John Bretz- manns will house the "Wonder Weeds" with Mrs. William Kel­ ly as chairman and Mrs. Louis Shustik as hostess. Nearby, the Rex Linder home will display the "Coners" wares, with Mrs. Irwin Burger as chairman and Mrs. Charley Lehman as hoat^ ess. A swing through Bull Valley takes visitors to two more homes. The James McCulloh farm will host the Farmers Market, headed by Mrs. Bazen Arnold with Mrs. John Bokum as hostess. Next door, the "school house" of the Kenneth V. Fiskes will be turned out like an old fashioned Christmas, with Mrs. Joseph Gitlin as host­ ess. On sale will be handmade baby items by Mrs. Frank Wish- ler and her talented co­ workers. MR. AND MRS. Miss Larkin graduated from Marian Cen­ tral high school in 1966. W/O Hinspater graduated the same year from McHenry high school and is stationed in Vietnam .with an Army aviation unit, flying a helicopter. Chairmen For Revue Named Elaine Justen and Dorothy Koleno are serving as co-chair­ men of this year's fashion show sponsored by St. Mary's Home and School association. It will be held Aug. 13 at the V.F.W. clubhouse. A variety of committees working for the success of the event are ably headed by com­ petent chairmen. Shirley Koch and Maureen Johnson are in charge of the kitchen; Eleanor Warier, Pat Schaefer and Rose Weingart of table settings and Hel^n Ro- denkirch, table decorations. Desserts will be arranged by Dolores Tonyan and Betty Smith; Vi Abbink will hp in cnarge of coffee and Terese Thompson will direct opera­ tions of the waitresses. Barbara Gilpin will narrate the show. * O Serve Chicken Dinner Sunday, Ringwood Church The Ringwood United Meth- odist church will hold its an­ nual chicken barbeque dinner on Sunday, Aug. 10, with ser­ ving to start at 11 o'clock and continue until the food is gone. Advance tickets are now on sale and will be honored first. Mrs. Walter Wilcox and Mrs. Frank Harrison may be con­ tacted to buy them. Her nylon illusion, three-tiered bouffant veil fell from a double bow half-hat crown highlighted with pearl's, crystal beads and aurora borealis crystals. "" The bride carried a bouquet of stephanotis and white roses in a colonial velvet holder. En­ twined in the bouquet were a cross made out of pieces of a church in Rome which had been destroyed during World War II, a cameo from France and a rosary belonging to her grand­ mother. It was fashioned by her cousin, a florist. Miss Debbie Brady of Har­ vard, Miss Ardith Szpelbaum and Miss Christine Krueger of McHenry and Miss Nancy Pol- lizzi of Woodstock attended the bride. They wore Nile green saki and chiffon, empire-styled floor length gowns with cowl neckline enhanced by colored lace motif. The gowns had a fitted bodice and long wrist length chiffon sleeves. The young ladies wore matching floral half hat crowns with bouf­ fant veils. Each carried a wick­ er basket containing daisies, carnations in different colors to match the flowers on their dresses. The bridegroom was attended by Charles Pitt of Highland Shores, Robert Bishop, Jr.,and Craig Mei8V of Woodstock and Michael Harrington, McHenry. Mrs. Krueger selected a Nile green dress with matching coat and matching bow half hat. Mrs. Pitt wore a pink crepe sheath dress with chiffon overlay. A reception followed the cer­ emony at the Legion home, Mc­ Henry, for 250 guests. "The newlyweds left by plane .Xor a trip to Miami, Fla., for a week, after which they will reside in Woodstock. The new bride is a graduate of Marian Central high school and has been a nurses's aide in McHenry for the past two and a half years. Mr. Pitt grad­ uated from Woodstock high school and is a plumber em­ ployed by Servisoft, Inc. Senior Citizens Look Ahead To August Events A very full and interesting evening was enjoyed by the Sen­ ior Citizens club at the meet­ ing last week. After a short business session, there was a very informative talk by Dr. Bergstrom, followed by a ques­ tion and answer period. At the card party which fol­ lowed, some played bridge, some canasta, some pinochle, various other card games and bunco, while others preferred to just enjoy vi siting 'with friends. Sylvia and Roland Grayson were in change of the card party and awar|ied very lovely and practical prizes to the winners at each |table. In view of the fact that jso many of the club members seem to enjoy the card parties Isomuch, plans have been made to have another in the very nealr future. The next regular meeting will be on Monday eveningu August 11, at 7:30 p.m. at jthe East campus cafeteria. ThiB prom­ ises to be another very en­ tertaining evening for the mem­ bers, as they will be sharing • 'The Wilson's Trip to Ireland". On Monday evening, Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m. the feature at­ traction will be the first Flow­ er and Garden Show. It is hoped all members will participate by entering and exhibiting the flow­ ers and vegetables they have grown. Q.I. Wagner, a club member, is an accredited judge by the Men's Garden Club of America, and he will judge all entries. He has issued a set of rules and regulations, but for further particulars anyone may contact him. Prizes will be awarded the winners. Another member of our club, Mr. Allen, has arranged to have the Northwest Ensemble, a stringed quintet, play for enter­ tainment throughout the even­ ing, while the entries for the Garden Show are being judged. Friendship Club Enjoys Picnic In Wisconsin About forty members of the Friendship club of the First Methodist church of McHenry, plus several guests, thoroughly enjoyed their picnic recently at •Fox River park, Wilmot, Wis. Although it rained in the morning, the afternoon was beautiful. The food was extremely delicious and cer­ tainly very plentiful, and the chefs, "Cy" Young and Van Kennedy, did an expert job in cooking the hamburgers. Ruth and John Godtfredsen en­ tertained, much to the great delight of their listeners. John played several selections on his accordion, Ruth sang, and then led the group in -commun­ ity singing. The committee also had many games arranged including base­ ball, horse-shoes and ether games; however, the one get­ ting the loudest acclaim was the balloon game. The balloons fill­ ed with water w^re certainly very fragile, as several of the ladies can verify as, they re­ ceived a shower when they broke. As dusk approaced, the group said their good-byes and it was suggested that they get to­ gether and "do it more of­ ten". Joyce Adams Entertained At Bridal Showers Miss Mary Sullivan enter­ tained at a surprise miscel­ laneous bridal shower Wednes­ day night, July 30, at her home in Lakeland Park, honoring Miss Joyce Ann A<|ams of McHenry, who will become the Aug. 9 bride of Jack Savini of Island Lake in St. Patrick's church. Mary was assisted by her mother with a buffet served to co-workers of Memorial Hos­ pital for McHenry county, Woodstock. Guests attended from Woodstock, Marengo, Wonder Lake, Crystal Lake and McHenry. Joyce was also honored at a surprise bridal shower July 27, given by Mrs. Marcus Art- ner, n, of River Forest. Her home was decorated with fresh floral arrangements of daisies and baby breath, and bows and streamers gracing the buffet ile. Games were played and buffet supper served to twen­ ty-five guests attending from Island Lake, McHenry, Chicago, Des Plaines, Downers Grove, Oakk Park, Elmhurst, River Grove and River Forest.
