I SHERIFFS OFFICE REPORTS WEEK OF MUCH ACTIVITY In a press conference held earlier this week, Sheriff John Carroll reported a busy week > in his department, which in­ cluded thirty-three in jail, twenty-seven in lock-up, twen­ ty-five accidents investigated, forty-eight traffic tickets is­ sued and fifty faulty equipment ticket warnings. The sheriff expressed con­ cern for school speed zones throughout the county and an­ nounced that he has in­ creased the radar to sixteen hours. Speeding violations are being investigated, in par­ ticular. He stressed emphasis on con­ tinuing education in his depart­ ment for the purpose of as­ suring that his men are thor­ oughly informed on all aspects of police work.» Mr. Carroll continued his re­ port by stating that double stop signs had been posted at the Kishwaukee V°.lley road andRt. 23 intersection, the scene of two recent accidents. Smith is charged with assault, criminal damage to property, resisting or obstruc­ ting a peace officer and dis­ orderly conduct. Gerald B. Miller of Rt. 1, Green, Mich., waived extradi­ tion to Portland, Ore., where he is wanted on several charges. He is charged with criminal trespass to vehicle and fugitive from justice. Earl B. Smith of 2811 N. Magellan, McHenry, charged with battery, pleaded guilty and was fined $50 and costs. Richard D. Madden of 4702 Winnebago, Wonder Lake, re­ ceived two years probation and a $100 fine on a charge of dri­ ving while license was suspend­ ed.
