Pre-printed applications for 1970 registrations have been mailed to all passenger car owners. Mr. Powell advised any passenger car owner who did net receive a pre-printed application or whose application listed a car he traded in the last year to secure a blank application from a currency exchange, auto dealer, bank or similar outlet, and use it to apply for 1970 registration. Owners wishing to retain their present numbers for next year must, by law, have their applications in his office no later than September 30, Mr. Powell pointed out. ^ INEZ YOUNG SCOUT CROUPS RESUME THEIR WEEKLY MEETINGS With school back in session, and the regular routines re­ suming after a leisurely sum­ mer, our local Brownies, Junior Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts will again holdtheir weekly meetings. The Brownies will meet at the Kellen home at 2700 S. Tow­ er drive from after school un­ til 5 p.m. The Junior Girl Scouts will meet on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 at the . Kasprzyk home at 2507 Bit­ tersweet. Cub Scout meetings will be announced after their registra­ tion which is being held at the Connell home next Tuesday eve­ ning, and the Boy Scouts meet on Monday evenings at the Boet- tcher home at 1511 W. Pine at 7:30 p.m. RUMMAGE SALE There are just a little more than two weeks remaining for you to get your rummage over to the Mahon home and to in­ form your friends that the sale will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 11 and 12. WARNING A note of warning to par­ ents to caution their children that they are not to accept rides from or talk to strangers. Sev­ eral young girls have been ap­ proached recently by a.man in a gray car. Hopefully we have all impressed the danger of go­ ing with strangers on our chil­ dren, but renewing the warning from time to time is advisable. The sheriffs police have been notified of the incidents and are patrolling the area much more frequently. lions Candy Goal $600,000 The Lions of Illinois Blind Activities committee has an­ nounced a $600,000 goal for the 1969 Candy Day campaign. An annual fund-raising drive for the sightless, Candy Day for the Blind is scheduled for Fri­ day, Oct. 10. * Commenting on the forthcom­ ing campaign, Lion Johnny Bal- bo, past international director, La Grange, said, "In the past seventeen years we've watched the Candy Day program grow into a major force for helping the visually handicapped in Ill­ inois. In these years some $4,500,000 has been raised and directed to agencies helping the sightless." Major projects benefiting from Candy Day funds include Hadley School for the Blind, Leader Dogs for the Blind, Camp Lions for Visually Handi­ capped Children, Dialogue and Illinois Society for Prevention of Blindness. A substantial portion of Can­ dy Day receipts are also di­ rected to local community ac­ tivities helping the blind. These include eye surgery, eye banks, tape recorders, phonographs, recreation, vision screening, corrective glasses and trans­ portation. MARGARET WEYLAND Miss Margaret Weyland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vin­ cent Weyland, 1124 South Black- hawk, arrived in Columbia, Mo., Sunday, Sept. 7, to attend Chris­ tian college, first college for women chartered by a state legislature west of the Mis­ sissippi river. President W. Merle Hill opened the school's 119th session at a student as­ sembly Sunday evening. Class­ es began Thursday, Sept. 11. Miss Weyland is a second- year student at Christian. K [Kiwanis News WONDER LAKE CLUB President Ward Ehredt has announced that installation of new officers will be held at the Legion home in McHenry Mon­ day, Nov. 3. Lt. Gov. Howard Dietrick will induct new offi­ cers. This also will be ladies' night. Kiwanis International is spearheading a drive to pass out information on the effects of drug usage. County Sher­ iff Carroll has been invited to speak to the club on some of the drug use problems in this area.
