Oct. 1, 8, 1969) WEEK DAY "Y" ACTIVITIES TO BEGIN OCT. 6 The fall special interest ac­ tivities of the Lake Region YMCA will begin on Monday afternoon, Oct. 6. Eight bowling teams will be formed for youth bowlers on Monday at Metro Bowl beginning at 4:30 p.m. A second day of bowling will start on Tuesday at 4:30 at Metro Bowls. At 1 p.m. on Wednesday there will be a beginning sewing class for women at the Crystal Lake Program center. On Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 there will be a drop-in chess, checkers, and table tennis activities for high school boys and girls. There will be a knitting class for adult women beginning at 8 p.m at the Crystal Lake Program center. On Thursday there will be yoga and bridge for women at the Crystal Lake Program cen­ ter. Beginning yoga will start at 10 a.m. At 1 p.m. there will be intermediate bridge, and at 8 p.m. another beginning yoga class. There will also be a Thursday open gym program for men held at Coventry school from 7:45-9:30 p.m. A monthly Junior high dance is planned for seventh and eighth grade boys and girls from 7:30 to 10 p.m. on Fridays. Specific dates and location will be an­ nounced soon. J: • NEW'JJiUNSHINF LADltS" GROUP ANNOUNCES AIMS First meeting of a new vol­ unteer service group establish­ ed to help residents of Villa Nursing home showed consid­ erable interest in proposed pro­ jects. Mrs. Elmer Antonsen, Mc­ Henry, heads this volunteer group and she said the women will be dreslsed in bright yel­ low smocks and carry the nick­ name of the ."Sunshine Ladies." More volunteers are needed, for an hour a week or several hours a day. This new group is organized to assist patients at the home, located on Pis- takee Bay. "Our goal is to make the pa­ tients' stay more pleasant," she said. " We don't offer med­ ical advice or physical therapy. Ours will be the kind of help mobile patients need." Visiting with them is one way. Running errands and helping with mail or shopping are oth­ ers. Six volunteers com­ prise the initial force, and they rrct for the first time last week. Lillian street, moves into residence hall at Southern Illinois university's Carbondale campus to begin her freshman year.
