WALLET SIZE The McHenry Warriors take cm the Woodstock Blue Streaks this Friday night in McHenry. This game, a traditional rivalry be tween the two teams, is part of the 1969 Homecoming festiv ities. Shown in last Friday night's game, Kurt Knaack (12) puts the stops on a Crystal Lake ball carrier as Frank Hig- gins (33) comes in to assist. Mary did add: "Tak- (GAYLORD) "The Recommended Photographer" will be at your 1969 Homecoming Dance Remember this gala event with natural color photos of you and your date We read the papers a lot and sometimes come upon some mighty disturbing items. Like for instance that gal out in Cal ifornia who is lecturing to col lege students -- and she an ad mitted member of the Com munist Party. Made us won der how long she would last if she went to Russia or China and lectured on democracy in the United States. Off to Siberia! It was Marie (Our Girl Fri day) who told us about Appling. We missed the news report. If it is sports news, we can de pend on Marie. FRIDAY NIGHT -- It will be Homecoming at Mc Henry high. Hope to see a lot of old grads present, but have no hopes of meeting any from our era. Coach Day and his boys would like nothing better than to win a football game for the grads. Greet and beat Woodstock. John McGee called to say the Thursday Night Club, an or ganization of many years stand ing, will resume the usual pro gram October 16. This group meets in the Girls' Gym at the East campus school. Anybody interested in a little exercise and good fellowship is invited. 2-5x7's IN BEAUTIFUL SOUVENIR MOUNTS It was a long road for 01' Luke Appling, but the trail led back to the White Sox where he will coach next year. A great shortstop and a great hitter was "Old Aches and Pains." It was always reported that he had more ailments than any body, real or imaginary, then would go out and play a great game. He should be a great coach. SATURDAY MORNING -- Our fast flying Cross-Coun try runners will host the Mc Henry County Meet on their course near West campus. If you read the sports page, you know that Coach Seaton has a winner. He has instilled a spir it of "want to win" in his boys and they have shown a wil lingness to give time and ef fort. Once again, it was Warrior team power which tri umphed, and it showed con clusively for any remaining doubters that the Warriors are the class of this area in long dis tance competition. The list of course records broken, and a string of almost thirty consec utive dual victories continues to grow as the Warriors prime themselves for the county meet here at McHenry this weekend. The little Warriors actually had no contest and ran just for the exercise as I>ake Zurich's team consisted of only 2 run ners, but even so, the first seven finishers as usual were orange and black. The finishers in order were, McGibbon, Died- rich, Seaton, Hendricks, Thom as, Picrum, and Miller in an other perfect 15-50 win. Coach Don Seaton was seen with that perennial winning smile on Tuesday morning after a early morning workout, but as with all coaches, he is worried a- bout some of the big upcoming meets. Will the sun continue to shine on more Warrior suc cess? Ask the runners, they'll give you the straight scoop. The Warriors garnered an eleventh place fin ish out of the 42 schools en tered, with a t<xal of 363points. Leading the Warrior charge JULIE FENWICK CHEERLEADER, RIPON COLLEGE Julie Fenwick. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pen- wick, 3719 Waukegan road, Mc Henry, has been chosen as a cheerleader for the Ripon col- , lege Redmen for the 1969-70 academic year. At the beginning of eachyear, a two-day clinic is held to leach the Ripon cheers to all interested giris and to show them how they are done. Af ter about a week of practice, the girls are judged on their cheering ability by a group of deans, physical education tea chers and lettermen. This year the cheer leading squad consists of six regular members and two alternates. Julie is a freshman at Rip on. as usual was Brad Pictor who gained a 14th place finish. Kieth Hutchinson came in 35th, fol lowed by Glen Hampton in 97th, Wayne Smith in 99th, Mike Freund in 99th, Terry McGib bon in 160th, and Bruce Da vis in 190th. Evanston won the meet with a paltry 45 points, followed by Palatine Fremd, and York of Elmhurst. It is in teresting to note that *xjth York and Palatine are in the sec tional meet for state honors which McHenry will compete in, provided they win the district. Coach Don Seaton felt that the experience in running in a mob such as this was very ben eficial to his charges, and the competition showed the War riors that there is still much work to be done in lowering their times before the end of the month rolls around. Cer tainly the Warriors acquitted themselves admirable in this meet, and now know just how much more hard work will be necessary to make their mark in future rugged competition of this sort. Just a reminder about tomorrow morning also, it is the county meet here behind West campus, try and make it if you can.
