AREA INVESTS $104,020 IN E-H BONDS McHenry county residents purchased a total of $104,020 in series E and H United States savings bonds and Freedom Shares in September, according to Donald J. Still, Woodstock, general county chairman of the savings bonds committee. Sales in the state of Illinois were $22,111,679, according to Clarence S. Sochowski, state director of the Treasury's sa vings bonds division. National sales were $351,000,000 inSep- tember, and the Illinois total represented 6.3 per cent of this amount. National sales of Free dom Shares, which are bought by purchasers of series E sa vings bonds, totaled $30 mil lion in September. This is 27 per cent increase above last year. The cash value of E and H savings bonds and Freedom Shares outstanding on Sept. 30 was $52,107,000,000. FELLOWSHIP GROUP FORMED AT LOCAL CHURCH Evangelism Chairman Fran Lamerand is coordinating the development of a fellowship group for adults at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church, 404 North Green street, McHenry. An organizational meeting for the group will be held at the church on Monday, Nov. 3, at 8 p.m. This new addition to the church program will provide fellowship, education and rec reation for the adults. The group anticipates perhaps taking ex cursions to such places as Or chestra hall in Chicago, State- ville prison in Joliet, and oth er points of interest. The future programs of the group may in clude a variety of speakers from all walks of life as well as organized recreation such as bowling. The organizational meeting to be held Monday evening will provide an opportunity for ev eryone to express themselves concerning the type of programs that would be of greatest inter est to the group. A year long schedule will be developed and a name for the group will be chosen. Any adult is welcome to attend the new group. The following forty-one peo- pl^have already registered: Paul and Rose Jensen, Eva John son. Jim and Mary Jane Boe- lens, Erv and Ruth Staveteig, Dorf and Midge Teuber, Joan an& Art Matthies, Shirley and Fran Lamerand, Joe and Vir ginia Karls, Roye and Roy Ro adman, Gladys and Bernie Ma yer, Leith and Gene Honning, Lois and Bill Kohl, Ken and Bonnie Schopp, Robert and Shirley Campbell, Paul and Gertrude Jessup, Glen and Ja net Anderson, Ed and Sue Rae- ther, Don and Margaret Han sen, Joyce and George Kam- merer, Leah and Walter Nuss and Rosemary and Paster Sch neider. RULE ON TAX RETURNS FOR STATE FARMERS Farmers who file their ann ual Illinois income tax return and pay their full tax by Feb. 15 will not be required to file state income tax estimates, Re venue Director George E. Ma- hin said. Mahin said state income tax rules and regulations governing farmers now conform to the fe deral procedure. Farmers who do not file an annual return with full payment of tax due by Feb. 15 will be required to file on an estimat ed basis. Estimated returns and payments will be due by Jan. 15, and final returns and pay ments by April 15. Mahin commented: "The De partment of Revenue is seeking to make it as easy as pos sible for all taxpayers to com ply with the Illinois income tax act. By having state filing pro cedures for farmers conform to the established federal proce dures, farmers will be relieved of a great deal of paperwork." The state income tax system also follows federal procedure exempting the agricultural em ployees from income tax payroll withholding. EDDIE tbe EDUCATOR says... | WHMT OOES ! IT ALL M E A N ? Father John Strzalka Pastor NOBODY LOVES Mark sat in the middle of the hospital ward, looking scared and lonely. All around, other babies were being hugged and cooed at by their visitort. He couldn't know we'd stopped to get his clothes and that today he'd be going home. His understand ing of the situation was limited. But then he saw us, and he laughed and held out his arms, loneliness and fear forgotten. Sometimes life maJces us feel tost and lonely. Perhaps a business fails, a son is unreliable, a new job overwhelms or a loved one's gone. When we can't see our way, where can tve turn? God is our Comforter. Whatever our problem, there is guidance and help in His word- Your church is the best place to learn under standing of God and yourself. This understanding is the key to the abundant life that is His promise.
