UNUSUAL CHURCH The church building in Acoma, New Mexico, is unusual in several respects. All mater­ ial was carried to the top of a 360 foot butte by human mus­ cles--beams 40 feet long and 14 inches square were carried by men from 30 miles away, over rough terrain--material for walls up to 10 feet thick and 60 feet high were carried up the 360 feet, largely by wo­ men. Later, the> plan to repaint them so that they will be appro­ priate to the study of Indians. David Spencer and Lee Griesbach, class members, described the process in this way: "When we first start­ ed tn make our masks our teacher would put a piece of cloth over our heads and cut out the eyes and nose. Then we put tape over the cloth to make the mold. Theh we mixed paper mache and put about five layers of it and one layer of paper towels to make it smooth. Then we let it dry so it would harden. The Board of Education, Dis­ trict No. 15, McHenry, Illinois, will receive sealed bids for the construction of the McHenry Junior High School, to be erect­ ed on property located on Ring- wood Road, North of Route 120, McHenry, Illinois. The work will include all General, Mech­ anical and Electrical trades, with the exception of the fol­ lowing which is presently under construction under a separate contract: a. Site Preparation Work con­ sisting of clearing the site, excavating, filling and compacting for building bench, Drives and Parking Area, rough and finish grading, gravel base for Drives and Parking Areas and catch basins and storm drain. Bids will be revived until 8 p.m. C.S.T., on Tuesday, Dec.- ember 2, 1969, at the Board of Education Offices, 3926 West Main Street, McHenry, Illinois, at which time and place the bids will be publicly opened and read. Hie proposed school building is essentially a steel framed building of approximately 80,000 square feet of floor ar­ ea in a two level plan on grade. Exterior wall of bice brick with concrete block back-up. Interior partitions of concrete block and demountable metal clad gypsum board. Finished floors of vinyl asbestos tile, ceramic tile, sealed concrete and carpeting. Ceilings of sus­ pended acoustic tile, plaster and drywall. Heating and ventila­ tion by means of gas fired hot water boilers, unit ventilator a, force flow convectors and air handling units. Partial air con­ ditioning system. A partial fire detection and automatic sprink­ ler system is included. Bidding Documents will be a- vailable at the Office of the Architects, Frazier, Raftery, Orr A Fair bank, 223 East Stale Street, Geneva Illinois, on and after noon, Monday, .Novem­ ber 3, 1969. Refundable da- posits for bidding Documents will be required as follows: a. General Contractors: $100 for three (3) sets of Ar­ chitectural and fltructw- •1 drawings and specifi­ cations, and one (1) aet of mechanical-electrical drawings and specifica­ tions. • Y b. Mechanical and Electrical Contractors: $100 for two (2) sets of Mechanical and Electrical drawings and apeciflcations and one (1) set of Architectural and Structural drawings and specifications. Deposits for Bidding Documents will be refunded upon submiss­ ion of a Bona Fide bid and re­ turn of Documents in good con­ dition, within ten (lO)'days sf- ter bid opening. Additional sets of Bidding Doc­ uments for any single Division of the work may be obtained by payment of the printing and mailing costs involved. Such coets will not be refundable.
