PLAINDEALER PHOTO PROCLAMATION Whereas, November the 11th, 1918, was officially established and designated by our Presi­ dent, WOODROW WILSON, and the military of many allied na­ tions, as Armistice Day, and commemorated as such until 1954, when the Congress of the United States established No­ vember 11 as Veterans Day, honoring all veterans of all wars, and, Whereas, the Veterans of World War I did always com­ memorate this Day, and always will, by honoring our Buddies, both living and dead, with ap- pfopriate ceremonies, and, Whereas, we as Veterans of World War I, in cooperation with the American Legion and their auxiliary, and the Vet­ erans of Foreign Wars, and their auxiliary, feel the neces­ sity of instilling and encour­ aging loyalty and PATRIOTISM into the hearts of all Amer­ icans, do hereby support and encourage the five-point portion of the AMERICAN CREED, which reads as follows: 1. We believe it is our duty to our country to love it. 2. To support its Constitu­ tion. 3. To obey its laws. 4. To respect its flag. 5. To defend it against all enemies. Therefore, I, Donald P. Do­ herty, Mayor of McHenry, Ill­ inois, to honor this Veterans Day, 1969, as a special day of commemoration in McHenry, DEAThCS Pg. 18, Nov. 5, 1969 8 p.m. at Condell Memorial hospital, Libertyville. Mr. Schaefer was born July 24, 1912, in Grant township. He resided at Johns burg and Volo before moving to Antioch in 1940. He worked as an as­ sembler for International Har­ vester Co., Frank G. Hough Co. division, in Libertyville. The deceased was a member of St. Peter's church and past president of the Holy Name so­ ciety. He also belonged to the United Automobile Workers Lo­ cal, No. 1643. Mr. Schaefer was married Sept. 30, 1939, at Volo to Helen Buchert, who died May 4, 1963. A brother, Edward, also pre­ ceded him in death. Survivors are four sons, Raymond of An­ tioch, Robert of Lake Villa, Ronald of South Haven, Ind., and Rodney at home; two broth­ ers, Walter Schaefer of Jack­ son, Mo., and Albert of Rock- ford; two sisters, Mrs. Marie (Clarence) Diedrich and Mrs. Viola (Robert) Nichols of Mc­ Henry; also four grandchildren. A funeral Mass was offered Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Peter's church, Antioch, with interment in Mr. Carmel cemetery, Antioch. Before that time, the body rested at the Strang funeral home. SUSANNE A. WOOD Susanne A. Wood, 93, of Oak Park and McHenry, died last week at the Woodbine nursing home, Oak Park. She had spent the summers at her home on Orchard Beach road since 1925. Mrs. Wood was a sister of Arch Wenzler and the late El­ la and Edward. She was the aunt of Mary Wannebo, Shirley Boostrom, Suzanne Wruck and Eleanor Farrari. Mass was offered Friday at 10 o'clock from St. Edmund church, Oak Park. The body rested at the Drechsler-Brown funeral home. CHRISTOPHER HOLAS Baby Christopher Holas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holas, died Oct. 27. Graveside services were held Oct. 29 at St. Mary's ceme­ tery. The baby was born pre­ maturely Oct. 13 at Memorial hospital, Woodstock. AVIS RITZ Funeral services were con­ ducted in St. Mary's Catholic church, Elgin, Friday morning. for Mrs._Avis Ritz, 72, of that city. Burial was in St. Patrick's, cemetery, McHenry. She was a sister of the late Mrs. R.I. Overton,Sr., of McHenry. DR. NICHOLAS MICHELS Mrs. Elizabeth Dorsch of Shalimar subdivision, Mc­ Henry has returned from Phil­ adelphia, Pa., where she at­ tended funeral services for her cousin, Dr. Nicholas Aloysius Michels, professor emeritus of anatomy at Jefferson Medical college. He was 78 years of age. Dr. Michels was a graduate of St. Thomas college, St. Paul, Minn;, in 1914 and received his doctorate of science in Bel­ gium in 1922. Dr. Michels taught at St. Louis Medical school ana Creighton university before ac­ cepting an appointment in the anatomy department at Jeffer­ son in 1929. He taught there for thirty-four years and was en­ gaged in research that made him a world authority on the vari­ ational anatomy of the blood supply of the abdominal organs. His doctoral research work on mast cells has remained a classic reference work for over twenty-five years. He was the recipient of numerous citations and awards for both his re­ search work and his teaching^ JOHN N. FREUND A funeral Mass was offered at 10 o'clock Tuesday in St. Mary's Catholic church for John N. Freund, 79, of School street, Chicago, formerly of McHenry. Burial was in the church cem­ etery. Mr. Freund died Saturday, Nov. 1, in a Gary, Ind., hos­ pital. The deceased was born March 27, 1890, in Johnsburg, son of Nicholas and Helena Klapper ich Freund. He was a retir farmer and carpenter. His first wife, Katherine, die in 1947. He is survived by' -widow, Margaret; six daut ters, Miss Leona Freund, Mr! McDonald, 69, of 5104 Maple Hill drive, McCul- lom Lake, died Thursday eve­ ning, Oct. 30, in McHenry hos­ pital. Mr. McDonald was born Jan. 8, 1900, in Chicago. Retired for several years, he was well known as a tavern owner at McCullom Lake. His wife died in August of this year. The only survivors are two grandchildren. A funeral Mass was sung Monday morning in St. Patrick's Catholic church, with burial in All Saints cemetery, Des- Plaines. MARY E. TOMASELLO Mrs. Mary E. Tomasello, do hereby request that all cit­ izens of McHenry participate in the Veterans Day program, as organized by the American Legion, Post 491; the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4600; and the Veterans of World War I, Barracks 1315, and I further request that all citizens of Mc­ Henry face the east for one minute at the hour of eleven o'clock on Veterans Day, that business houses remain closed between the hours of 10 and 11 o'clock that morning; and that McHenry area churches ring their bells, or play their chimes at 11 o'clock that day. 53, of 1106 W. She was born Feb. 14,1916, in Chicago. Survivors include one daugh­ ter, Mrs. William (Louellen) Vickery of Janesville, Wis.; two sons, Charles of Philadel­ phia, Pa., and Timothy of Janes- ville; her mother, Mrs. Anna Ammer; one granddaughter; and a brother, Charles Ammer, of Chicago.
