Colors can make a small proom larger, a dark area bright I or hide bad corners or unat- Ktractive plaster. r How you select color is very | important. If you have furni ture which has many pat terned and printed upholster ies you are wise to consider us ing the neutrals and monp- mttq colors such as beige. y, Duff or eggshell. In addition to providing a background for your gay fur nishings. neutral colors can unite living dining room areas, kand they can lying flowing lines to walls thai are chopped up with shelving, cabinetry, windows and door frames. However, if you wish to use bright colors, you may wish to consider them in terms of their origins. The primary col ors are: red, yellow and blue. All other colors are derived from these three colors. Once removed from these rimary colors are the second- colors of orange (which is plus yellow), purple (red lus blus) and green (yellow plus blue). All other colors are found between the secondary nd primary colors . . . they |would be colors such as yellow- orange or blue-green. You will want to remember that warm colors will make a room look larger while a cool color such as green will make it smaller. You will find many intensities of colors and words such as tone, hue, shade or tint applied. The word hue has reference to the amount of pigment in a color and when Ta. color is referred to as being v* of full intensity it will be very £ strong, such as the primary $ colors. The tints are created Owhen white is added to, and 1 the more white that is added, $the softer and paler the color H will becomes W it is most important that Lyou feel comfortable with the ft. color you select. Do not make a i color selection because it seems f to be the "fashionable" color £for the season. Make your se lections based on what you •: and your family like and find inmost pleasing. Ole! Ole! There will be many rich romantic Latin and Span ish influence collections for homemakers to select from in this season's home furnish ings offerings. And, sprinkled in among the very popular and exciting Spanish will be the chic, smart and high-style modern and contemporary lines. The Spanish will feature or nate carvings... and the pieces all will be in a smaller scale than in the past -- this is to fit in with our modern low- ceilings and smaller rooms. The colors will be flamboyant . . . with brilliance galore in the upholsteries. Both cloth and vinyl will feature a good deal of yellow and green in prints, patterns and stripes. Looking at the modern, you'll see clean, clean lines and ex citing adaptations of ideas. And the modern will also be scaled to fit today's homes. You'll also see more aluminum, chrome and steel frames wrap ped around sofas and chairs. There will also be new uses of glass and plastics, molded into exciting shapes, in every color of the rainbow. The very prac tical and functional plastics, vinyls and laminates will ap pear on almost every surface. On the way out . . . but not completely is the "Bonnie and Clyde" look of the 1930's with the overstuffed cushions and tufflng. This season it has more of a look of youth and vitality than ever before. • aw. w NM •%a i. • :.i. Turning to an old favorite of many shoppers -- Early American -- there will be an abundance of dark pine, ma ple, oak and cherry woods. Friendly and warm in attitude, Early American this season will feature cheerful prints and patterns. And, along with Early American, you'll also find som rustic English oak in the warm, honey wood grains and rustic, hand carvings. If you are interested in Tra ditional and French you will also find .those styles . . . and this season they'll also appear in smaller scale and with carved detail. They'll be in walnut and pecan as well as in the painted finishes. The upholsteries will be striped, floral and patterned in soft prints. Velvets ... plain, stripe, crushed, in vibrant colors and soft earth toneswill highlight the upholsteries. Also important for the sea son are the matching shade and lamp bases in a variety of colors such as mustard yellow, kelley green, shocking pink or aqua blue. The patent leather look for shades, with a stress on black patent, will also be very popular. Turning toward accessories, you will find something for ev ery mood and every room of your home ... from clocks and scones to paintings and cer amics. Pillows will also be in abundance in the exciting pat terns and fabrics as featured in the upholsteries. represent the furnishings. 3. Try to find the center of interest for each room on the plan.
