About twenty- five guests $ere present. A good sized crowd of ap­ preciative listeners was pre­ sent to enjoy the program put on at the local high school by three schools, Dundee, Crystal Lake and McHenry. The or­ chestra was composed of fifty- six members under the direc­ tion of W.N. Sears. Dick Conway, son of Ed. Con­ way, has a broken arm due to a fall from his pony. Mrs. Lillian Cox was hostess to the ladies of the social wheel at her home. Six tables of five hundred were in play. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Nov. 23, 1944) Mrs. Fred Ware passed away Nov. 20 at her home in Green­ wood township. Mrs. Ware was born on a farm south of Mc­ Henry,. the daughter of James and Ellen Walsh. We know all of our boys are happy to read of the news from home in each week's issue of the Plainaealer. However, one of our boys has enjoyed it so much that he was prompted to ask his mother to donate ten dollars as his contribution to the Soldier and Sailor fund. That boy is Charles Ingersoll, now serving in the Hawaiian Islands. The Madison King family has moved from the Covalt house on Center street to McCUllom Lake. Mrs. Floyd Covalt, Jr., and daughter have moved into their home. Donald R. Meyer is home on leave after 17 months navy duty at Guadalcanal and other Pa­ cific points. Mr. ahd Mrs. George Bohr are the parents of a daughter, born at the Woodstock hospital Nov. 21. Gus Freund gave the boys and girls reason to sit up and take notice at the Palace last Friday night as he bowled a 715 series.! Gilbert Howard is recovering in St. Theresa hospital from back injuries sustained when he fell fourteen feet from the barn on the Petrie farm south of McHenry. He was working on the roof of the barn when the accident occurred. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken From the files of Nov. 24, 1959) Ray McGee, postmaster for almost twenty-five years, will retire the end of this month. James Hettermann of Johnsburg will be new acting postmaster of the McHenry post office ef­ fective at the close of bus­ iness of Nov. 30. Henry J. Schaefer of Wau- kegan street died Tuesday morning Nov. 24. The Bernard Bollman Mem­ orial fund, created by the fam­ ily in memory of the late Ber­ nard Bollman, has been in­ creased by $3,300 through a check received from his estate. The fund which now totals $5,670 will be used to finance a por­ tion of the proposed McHenry hospital addition, a memorial to be determined by the family. Many other contributions are being made to the fund by friends in memory of Mr. Bollman. A group of members of the W.S.C.Slof the M.E. Commun­ ity church enjoyed a field trip to Chicago where they visited "The Chapel In The Sky" at the Chicago Temple and.New­ berry center. A three day illness ended early Saturday morning NOv. 21, in the death of a life long res­ ident, Edward R. Sutton, of East River road, McHenry. He was 77 years of age. Mary Lou Watkins, Orchard Beach, McHenry, has been named co-captain of the cheer- leading squad of Knox college. She is a graduate of McHenry high school. A determined bunch of "Fighting Irish" travelled to Crystal Lake last Sunday to play the season's basketball opener. When the shooting was over, St. Patrick's was the win­ ner 29 to 14. Butchie Meyer was the big gun in the first half and Mike Niska led the sec­ ond half scoring. Meanwhile the spirited floor play of Joe Blen- ner, Gary Walsh, Allan Pes- chke, Brendon Clove, Allan Mil­ ler ,and Ben DeCicco brought smiles to the faces of their coaches, Gordie Amundsen and Jim Busch. CHECKS MAILED Checks representing the first distribution of funds under the new Local Government Distrib­ utive Act were mailed to county and municipal officials Sept. 26. The checks, totalling $205,655, represent the first scattered returns of revenue under the new income tax. The new pro­ gram, approved by the General Assembly at the governor's re­ quest, sets aside one-twelfth of the revenues from the income tax for distribution on a per capita, r.o-atrings-attached ba­ sis to county and municipal governments.
