Top floor will add thirty-four beds, bringing to 130 beds the capacity of this county-wide hospital at Woodstock. Progress Forward . On Addition To County Hospital Moving ahead smoothly, con struction on the $1,367,570 ad dition to Memorial Hospital for McHenry County clearly shows to passing motorists and hos pital visitors. The L-shaped addition at the northwest corner has taken shape and has risen above the wood fence around the site. Col umns to support the first floor are completed. Next step will be to complete the second floor level with steel columns and the metal deck which will form the roof. Workmen will then build the needed stairways and add the third floor over the area where the delivery room is now lo cated. The complete fourth floor will be above that area plus over the long north-south cor ridor which at present is three stories high. Bert Hanson, administrator, hopes the fourth floor construc tion will be under way by spring. The thirty-four beds added to the hospital in this building and remodeling program will be on this fourth floor. Also included are improve ments in ancilliary depart ments, such as physical ther apy, laboratory, x-ray, bus iness and administrative of fices, kitchen and a new el evator. Two other major phases in clude! an all-new Snack Bar and Gift Shop, operated by the Wo man's Auxiliary, and expansion and relocation of the intensive care unit into a four-bed unit on the first floor of the L- shaped wing. Main entrance to the snack bar will be to the left in the present hospital lobby and will occupy more space than it does at present with an all-new counter setup, twelve stools, new refrigeration units, space for storage and ice cream sup plies and a new sandwich bar. Included in this area are pre sent patient rooms 107 and 109. "This will assure the aux iliary of five times as much space and will enable them to provide more extensive ser vice to patients and visitors," explained Hanson. AN OPEN DOOR "To The Public: "An American Field Service international scholarship is an open door which leads to un derstanding and friendship among the peoples of the world. Through this door pass students from sixty-one countries to attend American secondary schools in, more than 2,800 communities for a school year of study and first-hand exper ience, as well as American teenagers from practically ev ery state to study and live with families abroad -- a two-way program of seeing and showing. In this way, young citizens of the world learn to appreciate and to respect the similarities and differences of people who, though they live in different countries, have dreams and ef forts similarly directed toward the goal of a peaceful and use ful life.
