mi. / < --&3r GRANDMA SEZ ••• PG. 4 - PLAINDEALER - FRIDAY, DEC. 19,1969 I been agoin* on lately about the way man ha&-$nterfered wi' things, introduCln* new inven tions, an sich, into society. There's a lot o* good things that hev come, o' the inventive ness an' curiosity o' the minds o* men, but I think if s about time thet we take inventory, and search out the bad an' git rid o' it, and concentrate on the good things. The modern thinkin' seems to' encourage speed in everthin' we do, nowadays. I cain't help thinkin' that a lot o' folks is so speedy about livin', they haven't time t' take notice o' what's agoin' on about 'em. Livin' at such a rate, only makes the time go faster, seemin'ly, an they'll find themselves along in years, a wonder' where all the time went. Families seem t' be involved in this way o* livin't' the point thet the good ol' family relation- ship, which we, of my genera- tion wuz brought up wi', is fast disappearing Another contribution f the lack o' communication among family members, is the TV. I know of children, who become . so, sort o', hypnotized, a watch- in* the TV, they don't seem a- ware o* much o* anthin' else. Now, some families are dif ferent. The TV viewin' is con trolled, so as f not interefere wi' the family circle, but even they have lost the art o' en- joyin' leisure time, jistatalkin* an* visitin' wi' each other. Seems when the time comes fer sittin*. the TV gits turned on. The things worth lookin' at, •re mostly too adult fer the younguns to enjoy in company with the elders. There's a lot o' families who're so busy, rushin' about t* different activities o' organ ized groups fer the youngsters, they don't even hev time fer the TV. or any other family togetherness. Pd take a long breath, and a good think, afore Pd give up all the family hours, learnin' t* live in harmony wi' one another, and enjoyin' ex change o* conversation wi' the members. Seems like every one's busy a tryin' t' crowd so much inter life, they lose track o' the value o' human communication, an' family fellowship. On the other hand, I kin name several families, remindin' me o' the way things wuz in my day. One family won't have a TV in the home. Ye'd be ser- prised at the close relationship o* the members, an' how inter ested they are in each other. It is up t' the parents f en courage the feelin' o' family togetherness, and they kin suc ceed, incorporatin' the modern advantages along wi' it, if they hev a mind to.
